I am personally no D1 athlete, but back in school I use to be able consistently stand and hit 7/10 or 8/10 free throws. I guess I don’t know what I am missing with this team and why we can’t make them consistently. It’s been like this for Iowa State even going back to Fred’s teams. I imagine they practice them and get shots up. It’s like their brains melt to mush when they stand behind the free throw line.

Let's hear it for our 'centers'

Combined, Rob Jones and Hason Ward are averaging (per game):

40 minutes
15 points
9 rebounds
2 assists
2 steals
2 blocks
61.3% from the field
50.5% free throws! (I had a low bar but they've cleared it)

As good if not better than I hoped in each of these areas. Ok, maybe the rebounding numbers are about what I'd expected but...

B12 Unbalanced Schedules (from the Williams & Blum conversation)

I thought one interesting way to see which teams in the conference got the hardest / easiest conference schedules (based on the Williams & Blum conversation today) would be to look at the ESPN BPI rankings.

JP must have done something to piss off Brett Yormark... the remaining B12 schedules are only the 18 conference games for each team except Oklahoma State who plays Chicago St tonight. After tonight's game, these to go strength of schedule rankings will be based only on the 18 game B12 conference schedules for each team (I will update tomorrow).

ISU got one of (if not the hardest) football schedules and, based on BPI at least, the hardest basketball schedule in the conference.

One other interesting note... BYU has the 14th hardest remaining schedule in the B12.... According to BPI at least, they also have the 14th hardest remaining schedule nationally! The B12 has the 14 hardest remaining schedules in the country based on this metric.

I also sorted the teams based on their chance to win the conference (again, based on BPI).. BPI loves Houston, hates Kansas. They have ISU as the 2nd highest ranked team in the league (#4 in the country). But BYU with the easiest B12 schedule and ranked 3rd in the conference (#10 in the country) has a slightly better chance to win the conference based on BPI. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Saturday will be a beautiful February afternoon . . . for a tailgate!

From 3pm to 6pm between the MBB and WBB games, I will have the trailer in the C4 lot (or closer if I can get it). Look for the Ames Lager flag.

Featuring:
Ames Lager, pop, coffee, water.
Brats, hot dogs, chips, Oreos.

No charge. Whatever you contribute will be given to the We Will Collective.

No. 24 Oklahoma hands ISU its first Big 12 home loss, 86-72, at Hilton

Rest of the Way

Half way through the conference season, let's look ahead.

To start with, protect Hilton tomorrow for a sweep of TCU.

Then, I would love to see Cincinnati knock off Houston tomorrow. Keep UH from gaining on the pack.
Take the edge off Cincinnati desperation for a big win, probably moving them off the bubble.
Letdown Tuesday when ISU visits.

Those 3 thing happen and the Cyclones are in 1st!

Musical Artist/Group and Venue?

1. Was curious to know.... if you could choose to see any musical artist/group of all time, which one would you choose.... AND at what venue?

2. In addition.... if you could see any CURRENT musical artist/group, which one... and where?

-This is almost an impossible thing to answer for me, and probably for many of you. Groups like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc came to mind almost immediately for me... but after thinking about it for quite a while.... a different name came to mind... and rose to the top... and now I can't come up with something better no matter how hard I try to move them down the list..... Michael Jackson. I know NUMEROUS people are going to ridicule me for that answer and laugh me out of the conversation, but when I factor in everything.... music, entertainment value, showmanship, etc, etc, etc.... I think that would be hard to beat. And the venue for that wouldn't really matter all that much IMO... I'll just say Madison Square Garden... or something like that? I'm sure there would be MUCH better venues, just can't think of any off the top of my head. Someone else can help me with that part. A close 2nd would probably be Pink Floyd though.

As for the 2nd question.... I've always wanted to see The Cure, so maybe I'd go with them? I think they are still touring? And I've always wanted to go to Red Rocks, so I'll say there. Honorable Mention right now for me might be Mt. Joy.... only because that's who I've been mostly listening to currently probably. So that answer could change next week. I'd like to see Gorillaz too!
