Place Your Bechts

I might be the only one and I'll eat my words if it doesn't pan out but I'm very excited about what Rocco has to offer at the QB position. I liked what I saw out of him in the few instances we got to see him last year and I think he'll really settle in to a good spot with some consistency in his playing time. He showed some athleticism and the ability to make accurate throws, he just needs to get used to the D1 game speed. I know Kohl is gonna give him a run for his money and doesn't want to redshirt, but I honestly think he could use a full year in the weight room to beef up and protect himself from injury. After that year it's anybody's job and that's a good problem to have in my opinion. Anybody else feeling slightly optimistic despite the recent news on the gambling front?

FS: 2 Iowa/ISU lower level tickets for sale

I have 2 tickets for sale for the Iowa game that will be unused... I have a total of 4 season tickets (all next to each other) and schedules changed on the family members that intended to use them.

Section 5, row 8... 25-30 yard line on the home side. Great for watching the band during the game and of course for halftime shows. $390 each.

I can transfer with ticket exchange...

WTB: RV Village Pass for 9/2 or 9/23. And a question

Hi. We are an ISU family, daughter is entering sophomore year. We would like to purchase an RV Village pass for a game. Our preference would be Sept 2nd, but could also do Sept 23. We will be on the road with the RV most of the rest of the season.

Also, a question. How do you purchase a pass for the season and what is the cost. We are thinking ahead to the next two seasons and would like to attend most/all games?

Iowa Ice Company short bus

41E69C3C-7054-4EB1-AD90-C4B904D2C530.jpegThis weekend I drove by the Iowa Ice Company, the ice vending station on West Lincoln Way. Unfortunately, they have closed and sold the property. However, when I stop by to talk to them, they told me that their Iowa Ice Company, short bus is for sale. This is a vehicle that they relied on as a work truck and it is in good operating condition.

Call 641/242-0221. If you inquire, please tell them Steve from CF referred you. I won’t get a kick back, but I want them to know that the inquiry came from the CF community.AD744765-74F2-4A47-A729-265074F7CA55.jpeg62F29942-B3FA-4C92-808E-F092CC85176B.jpeg

College Football 12 Team Playoff Analysis

Since we have the current* rules for how the 12 team playoff will be selected and we have the playoff standings going back to 2014, we can see what the make up of the proposed 12 team playoff would have been from 2014-2022.

*Current rules could change based on all of the re-alignment. For example, instead of 6 conf champs, drop it down to 5. However, hard to say if that would happen in 2024 or if it would have to wait given the current bowl agreements/tv payouts are through 2026.

First Chart:

Using the 2014-2022 playoff rankings we can see who the 12 team playoff participants would have been each year. In addition, using the new conference membership for 2024 we can see how many berths the 2024 conference members would have had over the last 9 seasons:

1691439264490.png

NOTE:

B10
would have had 10/18 teams in at least one playoff. Teams that would not have been in any of the first nine, 12 team playoffs are: RUT, MD, UCLA, NW, ILL, MIN, NEB, PUR

SEC would have had 10/16 teams. Teams that would not have made it: SC, Tex, UK, Miz, Ark, Vandy

B12 would have had 11/16 teams participate in at least one playoff. Teams that would have missed: ASU, TT, Kan, BYU, WVU (tex is one of 4 current B12 teams that would not have made a single playoff in the last 9 years, the other 6, ISU, KSU, OU, TCU, Bay, OSU all would have been in at least 1)

ACC would have had 5/14 teams included in at least one 12 team playoff. Clemson (7), FSU (3), Miami, UNC, Pitt (1 each).

Second Chart:

In this chart I compared the berths by 2022 members vs. 2024 conf members. For example, for the B12 it would be the ten 2022 members and for 2024 it is the 16 new members (-ou/t, +cin/byu/ucf/hou/uu/asu/ua/cu).

1691437857589.png

NOTE:

B10
adds 8 berths with their adds of UW (3), USC (3), Oregon (2).
SEC adds 6 berths from OU
B12 adds 10 berths with uu (3), ucf (2), cinci (2), and CU, UA, Hou (1 each), and lose 6 from OU
PAC Loses 13 (3 each: UW, USC, UU, 2: Oregon, 1 each: UA, CU)

Berths Per Season 2022 vs. 2024:
B10: 2.9 to 3.8 (+0.9)
SEC: 2.8 to 3.4 (+0.7)
B12: 1.8 to 2.2 (+0.4)
ACC: 1.4 to 1.4 (flat)
PAC: 1.6 to 0.4 (-1.2)
ND: 0.4 to 0.4 (flat)
Other: 1.1 to 0.6 (-0.5)

By eliminating one of the conf champ spots, you open up an at large bid (0.4 berths from remaining PAC+0.6 from "others" = 1 conf champ spot, everyone else can continue to average the same number teams that they have in the past 9 seasons to fill 5 champ spots + 7 at large spots).

Net, I think the B12 did pretty well. They have a relatively deep conference that should have opportunities to get multiple teams in a playoff in the future. Last year, KSU and TCU would have both qualified as well as Utah. Two years ago, Cinci, OSU, Utah, and Bay would have all been in. That is 7 new members all represented in the past 2 years (avg of 3.5 berths/year!).

possible 10 conference games (big 10 and big 12)??

there is a report that the big 10 will go to 10 conference football games with the addition of UW and OR. Will the big 12 consider going to 10 big 12 games? and if both conferences do that will the Iowa/ Iowa State game be taken off the table in the non conference schedule.

just a question. i love the iowa rivalry game but i can see the problem of having it remain.

thanks what is everyones thoughts?

Legendary director William Friedkin passes away

He has quite the spectrum of films. Some all-timers but also some headscratchers that are pretty bad. French Connection and Exorcist are all time classics and those were VERY early in his career. He never saw the same accolades as he did with those two.

  • The Exorcist
  • Cruising

RV Village-Down in the Dumps

Looking forward to our 2nd season in The Village. Now that the realignment talk has calmed down and football season is upon us I have an important topic for which I need some advice. We travel from southeast Iowa, up 218 & 380 to 30 (vice versa to get home). Last year we would dump at the 380 rest stop south of CR on our way home. However, the Iowa DOT has closed all the public dump stations. Where are people (specifically those heading east) dumping their tanks?
