Maintaining nearby property laws in Iowa

I live at a property that is a row of houses with nothing behind it because it was bought with the idea of turning it into houses eventually, that was probably over 15 years ago or so. I have only lived at this property for two years but have noticed other houses have taken to maintaining well out of the property lines which is smart because it gets wild with weeds otherwise. I just heard there may be a law that states if you maintain a section of property for 7 years it can legally be yours as the land owners do nothing at all to maintain it just have mounds of dirt on some parts of the land. Is that true and how do you go about staking claim to that property legally?

^The annual Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Sportsmanship Awards will be re-named the Bob Bowlsby Awards.

^In 2024, the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship will move to T-Mobile Center. The women’s and men’s championships will run consecutively with the women playing on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. The men will play Tuesday-Saturday. Kansas City was awarded a two-year extension as host through the 2027 tournaments.

^Television coverage on ESPN+ was added for the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships.

B12 Tournament - 2024

See they are splitting the MBB & WBB Tournaments again - but both in KC. Appears to be so the WBB is played in T-Mobile also. I TOTALLY disagree with this move, first because it makes most fans choose between the two tournaments - they do not have the resources to be in KC that long to stay for both tournaments. Secondly it will reduce the attendance at the WBB tournament and the games will look baron in T-Mobile with 2-3 thousand in a 20 thousand seat arena. Also means a long layoff for the WBB teams before the NCAA games.

Pride Month

Some people, not all, may not know what Pride Month means or think it's a month full of parades and rainbows. Some background and info on this first day of June to kick off Pride Month! I really hope this doesn't get moved to the cave.

What is Pride Month?
Pride Month is a time for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies to come together in celebration, solidarity, activism, reflection, and support of all LGBTQIA+ people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual).

While a Pride Parade or Pride March are often part of Pride celebrations, there’s more to this holiday than parades. Pride can be a meaningful time to learn about the historical and present struggles and exclusion of LGBTQIA+ people.

How did Pride begin?
Pride originated as a celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising (sometimes called the Stonewall Riots). In the early hours of June 28, 1969, police conducted a raid on a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City.

Unfortunately, during this time, being gay was a criminal offense. In fact, it was illegal to serve alcohol to a gay person until 1966. Raids on gay bars were standard procedure, but this raid would go down in history as the birth of the Pride movement.

Led by courageous transwomen, people at the Stonewall Inn protested the raid, leading to a six-day-long resistance. By just the second evening, thousands of protestors had gathered. Confrontation, violence, and escalation ensued for nearly a week. In the aftermath of Stonewall, many people became more engaged in activism and advocating for the equal treatment for LGBT people.

The first Pride march was held one year later, on June 28, 1970.

Pride Language Glossary
Language is ever-evolving – and that’s a good thing! Below, I am sharing a brief glossary of a few commonly-used words related to Pride Month.

  • LGBTQIA: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Questioning, Intersex, Asexual & Agender
  • Queer: Once used an an insult, “queer” has been reclaimed as a descriptive adjective that many people use proudly. The dictionary definition of queer as “strange; odd” is becoming much less common and can be demeaning to people who identify their sexual orientation as “queer.”
  • Cisgender: Sometimes referred to as “cis,” a cisgender person is someone who identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth.
  • Transgender / Trans: A transgender or trans person is someone whose gender identity does not align with the gender they were assigned at birth. Trans people may or may not take steps to transition.
Pride Flag FYI
The Rainbow Flag, the international symbol of LGBTQ+ community, was designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978. It used to be comprised of 8 colors, which were later cut down to six - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet (removing hot pink and integrating turquoise and indigo into royal blue).

Every colour on the flag has its meaning:
  • Red = life
  • Orange = healing
  • Yellow = sunlight
  • Green = nature
  • Blue = harmony
  • Violet = spirit
LGBTQIA+ Famous Quotes:
  • "It takes no compromise to give people their rights ... it takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no political deal to give people freedom. It takes no survey to remove repression." - Harvey Milk
  • "There’s nothing wrong with you. There’s a lot wrong with the world you live in." - Chris Colfer
  • "I think being gay is a blessing, and it's something I am thankful for every single day.' - Anderson Cooper
  • "When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free." - Barack Obama

Need advice from car people

Which car would you get?

Since my current car only gets 20 mpg highway, and is an 05 Ford Taurus sedan with some mild mechanical issues that I wouldn't trust much farther than between Ames and Des Moines or Ames and Waterloo/Cedar Falls, I'm looking for something more fuel efficient.

Normally I'd buy used but the used market is so jacked right now that unless I happen upon an amazing used deal, I'm probably better off just buying something new. My budget would be around $25k and my main priorities are something that gets good gas mileage that doesn't struggle on the highway. Doesn't have to be sporty. Just doesn't have to struggle on the highway.

The Corolla and Forte are the only models I've been able to find recent enough model year used versions to test drive (impossible to find anything new in stock right now) so those are the final candidates just by nature of that.

I'm looking for advice as to what to get. I should add that I'm open to other suggestions in this price range but currently the leaders are the Forte and the Corolla as explained earlier.

On That Note: Information Machine Part 2

Welcome back to “On That Note,” CF’s weekly music exploration, co-hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

A few weeks ago, we explored the 5 W's and 1 H of gathering information (part 1). This week we conclude with part 2, in which we are looking for songs with (Why-Where-How) in the TITLE only.

We will allow song titles only that have variations of these 3 words (i.e. However, somehow and several variations of where i.e. Anywhere, Nowhere, Somewhere, Wherever, Everywhere)
