Favorite Military Aircraft

I have been watching Air Warriors on the Smithsonian channel recently. Got me thinking about my favorite military aircraft. Was wondering what other aviation enthusiasts might have to say on the topic. Mine is the A10 Thunderbolt. AKA the warthog or hog. Not sleek, not sexy but what a bad a$$ airplane. Built by Fairchild Republic in early 70's it was designed to provide close combat ground support and tank killing capabilities. A 30mm, 60 rounds a second cannon, capable of carrying16,000 pounds of mixed ordinance, straight wing, high engine design What's not to love. Pic below says it all

I was able to see one up close and personal with my son at an air exposition at the Des Moines airport. Was an air national guard anniversary. I am thinking around 1991. Was a ground display but also performed aerial maneuvers. Quite impressive.

JJ Kohl named On3 Sports 'Top Performer' in Day 1 of Elite 11 showcase

Sounds like he had a near perfect day - interesting that I never found a broadcast link because I feel like I watched some when Lazard was out there, but I'll post a link if I come across one.

Samuel Same Commits!

Long, athletic basketball player type. Will probably need a little time to add muscle.

On That Note Heads Up! Favorite Albums by Decade Begins This Week

This is for promotional purpose only, do not post choices here (Official thread arrives Tuesday.)

This week, we launch our annual albums-by-decade series, for years ending in 2.

So, for part 1, choose up to five of your favorite LPs released in 1962 and/or 1972. (Those years only, NOT the entire decade.) In follow-up weeks, we’ll do ’82/’92 and ‘2002/’12.

Choices should focus on studio albums. Avoid greatest hits/live/compilations, except in rare cases when it encompasses a career/body of work. Live LPs are fair game, since those tend to have uniqueness beyond studio output. If you’re more singles-oriented, you may substitute top singles from the specific year.

Each selection may include up to 4 clips from that LP. In addition to the tracks, we encourage you to expound on why the album is meaningful, including personal history of your relationship with the record and its music.

If you have any questions about the series, feel free to ask here.

Start your listening research!

Utah / Colorado Vacation Ideas

I'm taking the family to NW Colorado / NE Utah later this summer. I'm wondering if anyone has ever been there and MUST or MUST NOT things to see/do.

The focus of the trip is Dinosaur, CO. My daughter is 7 and is really in that phase so that is the one thing we have to do. We'll be staying in Vernal, Utah, just west of there. We'll have 5 days in Vernal.

Things on our list:
- Dinosaur National Monument
- Horseback riding in the national forest
- Flaming Gorge Reservoir hiking/picnic

We also have a 3 year old. So no serious/challenging hikes are in our future.

Boundary surveying cost

My family has ~80 acres of land and on one side the adjoining land owner seems to think they can treat our property as theirs. So, I'd like to get it surveyed and put up some marker posts just to let them know where the line actually is. So, my question is what can I expect to pay for that service, roughly? Is it a few hundred? A few thousand? More? This would be on the edge of a crop field that has some timber along the 'fence' line although there is no fence anymore.

Williams & Blum Pod: Time to engage

Blum is fired up about some arrogant UCLA reporters running their mouths about Iowa State. We engage. Hoops recruiting and more.

Official start of the dog days of the sports calendar

With the Stanley Cup finishing tonight, came to the unhappy realization that the dog days of the sports calendar are upon us. Almost two months to the day until college football kicks off the start of next year's calendar. Going to be a long summer.

And don't give me this whole baseball thing. Baseball is what you watch when you need a nap and the golf gallery is being a bit too vocal to let you doze off.

Muscle cars

I've been thinking of getting something fun to drive (though may wait a bit to see if used car prices drop). I'm not mechanically skilled. Of these cars and era of that car, which is generally the best mechanically speaking?

90's Firebird
90's Camaro
Late 90's-2000's Mustang
80's Corvette

1980's Men's Basketball Memorabilia

Was going through some boxes and found some Iowa State MBB memorabilia from the 1980's. Sharing here in case anyone is interested in purchasing the lot shown in the picture. If so, PM me with any questions or an offer and we can go from there. In case you are curious, the posters inside the game programs feature the following players:

Lefty Moore
Ron Falenschek
Jeff Hornacek
Ron Virgil ('84 & '86)
Gary Thompkins
Darryl Spinks
Jeff Grayer

The '86 Iowa Boys State BBall program is autographed by Johnny Orr and features future Cyclones Terry Woods and Brian Pearson

Naismith Award

I lost track of things and got to wondering who was the Naismith Coach of the year. And it turned out it was the Providence coach. But then I found the top 10 finalists and was stunned that coach Otzelberger wasn't even on the list. Taking a team from 22 losses to 22 wins in one year doesn't even get recognized??? Seems like something's wrong there. Perhaps not winning it is understandable but looking at the list it just doesn't make sense that he's not on the finalist list. Just a rant so not expecting a big long thread to develop but I couldn't find a thread on this board that talked about it. Here are the finalists.
