Wait that’s that actress!

You ever watch something and you think you know the actor or actress from somewhere but can’t place it?

I was watching Seinfeld reruns and the one where Jerry and George steal the nazi’s limo was on. The woman in that limo is ALSO a different character in Seinfeld later. She plays Poppy’s niece.

But then just now I was channel surfing and Weird Science is on and I see one of the main girls and am like wait that’s her!

Aging parents - questions to ask

My Mom has dementia and we are nearing the time where she needs to go to a nursing home. My Dad is meeting with a local nursing home and also with his attorney to get some questions answered. My sister is going with to take notes since there's a good chance Dad won't remember it all. My sister & I are the only children and we're putting together a list of questions for both appointments - like what do we need in place in case Dad dies while Mom is in the nursing home. Since we've not been through this before, what questions should we ask? And, yes, I'm also looking online for ideas. I'm just looking for some thoughts from those that have been in this spot or have planned for it.

Empty Seat Question

Is it ok to use an empty seat near your own seat in Jack Trice?
My season ticket seat is in the row right behind my oldest son's seat. Last Saturday at the Baylor game, there were 2 empty seats on my left side. My son moved back to my row to stand by me. As I said the seats had not been utilized by anyone in the early part of the game. There was a couple in the next 2 seats that told my son that "those seats were bought already and he couldn't sit there." My son said to them that if the occupant of the seat came he would move back but would like to stand by his dad. They started to get very upset. A person 2 or 3 rows behind the couple started to yell at my son to get out of the seat. My son did move back to his seat. He told me that while they were correct that the seat was not his, he felt that their response was way out reason. I totally agreed with him. BTW- No one ever sat in those seats the entire game.

Friday OT #2 - Seek & Destroy

We'd been very casually looking recently at property in Fort Myers, FL... until this week. Wow, did Ian just annihilate that area. And it reminded us of why we don't live in areas that are high hurricane paths - I wouldn't be able to handle rebuilding constantly like that. I am not personally a huge New Orleans just on the merits of the town itself outside of Bourbon Street - before taking into account the fact that it's settled on a hurricane swamp.

What areas of the country/world would you never consider living in due to the weather/natural events? Do you hate extreme cold? Wouldn't be able to deal with the heat in a desert? Do you have a fear of San Francisco falling into the ocean due to earthquakes?

Friday OT #1 - Dumb Da Dumb Dumb Dumb

This was an expensive week for us, thanks to @Mr Janny . He made a chicken-and-rice dish last Sunday - I don't cook, so I didn't ask a lot of questions, but none of us enjoyed it. Much at all. I think I told him, "I appreciate you cooking so much, but I actively hate this." Needless to say, we had many, many leftovers - so he gave them to our two dogs.

These aren't your "eat a tin can barnyard dog" variety dogs. These are "hypoallergenic prissy dogs to accommodate Angie's allergy" dogs who puke if food is too hot, too cold, too bacon-y. He gave them a TON of the food, and both proceeded to vomit that afternoon. Our dog who is typically more of a puker, Hazel, was one-and-done, she got it out of her system. Stuart barfed a few more times - so Janny, for I DON'T KNOW WHAT REASON, gave them both more on Monday. Stuart couldn't hold anything down that night, I called the vet and we did a fast-and-white-rice diet, got him probiotics from the vet, etc. Nothing was helping.

I took him in finally after chatting with our vet. While I was waiting for the exam with Stuart, I texted Janny to find out all of the ingredients. "Chicken, rice, chicken stock, a packet of onion soup..." Both the vet and her tech stopped short when I mentioned the onion soup, what with it BEING TOXIC TO DOGS and all. They had to do X-rays to check for obstructions, blood work to make sure it hadn't given him pancreatitis, an anti-emetic injection, some more anti-emetic pills to take home, special food that they informed me "you should give him the next few days instead of table scraps" (thx), etc.

Total bill? $721. So that Janny didn't have to throw away some chicken and rice. We got home and he said, "Wow. Well, I am glad they found out what it was so I didn't have to also tell them there was half a can of beer in there."

ANYWAY. That was a whole backstory to ask - what is "I'm a dumb ass tax" money you've had to spend that just enrages you? Money that you were like "I seriously can't believe I caused that/didn't know that?" Because I'm not letting Janny live this down anytime soon, maybe help me put this into perspective.

Water in Basement

Recently had a drain back up and flood the basement. The basement is pretty large at about 2,000 sq feet. I had ServePro and a contractor come in and both said carpet needs to go along with all the trim and 2 feet up of dry wall and insulation. I got a quote that included demo (removing carpet, padding, trim, drywall and insulation), insulating, drywall, painting and replacing the floor and some doors. Estimate came in around $38-40K which was under $15/sq foot and I thought that was pretty reasonable. Insurance adjuster is acting like it is absurd and wants to come and give there own estimate. I told them that was fine, but that I needed to get going as it has been 8 days since filing the claim and they haven't even made an attempt to call to schedule anything. I have taken lots of pictures and sent them to them and kept all the carpet and demo material. I am afraid if I wait till they show up to start the repairs that I won't be able to find anyone to do the work in a reasonable timeframe. I guess the question is does this estimate seem excessive and is this pretty typical of insurance claims in dealing with basements and water damage?
Thanks

Michigan Writers Take on Iowa

My favorite Michigan blog is mgoblog and every week they do the write ups on various upcoming opponents. The iowa sections this year have all been gold but since they are playing this week it got a little more attention. Enjoy.

The Road Ahead

Iowa (3-1, 1-0 B1G)

Last week: Won at Rutgers, 27-10

Recap: As a result of a series of decisions I have made in my life — some good, some bad, some incomprehensible — I watched this game. The whole thing. It’s fine, really. I acknowledge my role in this. I place no blame, and I ask for no sympathy.

I don’t know what Iowa football is made of. It’s some bizarre combination of the Saw franchise-style torture porn, distilled Stockholm Syndrome, and whatever metal the One Ring from the Lord of the Rings was made from. One cannot look away, even though one knows this isn’t healthy. But despite its general stupidity and failure to meet even the basic standards of objectively mediocre football, Iowa will, several times per game, do something that will make you sit up and clap like a sea lion offered a mackerel. This game was no different; they score two defensive touchdowns on Rutgers gifts, and doinked in a field goal to hit the historically low Over of 34.5. And I clapped. Oh how I clapped. Mackerel, please.

---------------------------

The brain is a funny machine. I spent the noon window lamenting the stuck-in-the-mud Michigan offense that only generated 34 offensive points and 463 yards at 7.0 yards per play. I then spent my evening marveling at the efficiency and, dare I say, explosiveness of the Iowa offense. A 42-yard pass play, mostly through the air! A drive featuring plays of 21, 11, and 20 yards in quick succession! Three consecutive drives that covered a combined 204 yards!

Then after the game I looked at the box score: 13 offensive points, 277 yards, 5.0 yards per play.

I fear I have been KirkPilled.

This team is as frightening as: Once more, for old times’ sake.

Fear Level = 5

Michigan should worry about:
Great, it’s not Night Kinnick. Night Kinnick FEELS worse. But Day Kinnick is just as evil:

In Iowa's last 6 home games against AP top-5 foes:
2008 vs. 3. Penn State, W 24-23
2010 vs. 5. Michigan State, W 37-6
2016 vs. 2. Michigan, W 14-13
2017 vs. 4. Penn State, L 21-19
2017 vs. 3. Ohio State, W 55-24
2021 vs. 4. Penn State, W 23-20
This week, No. 4 Michigan
— Scott Dochterman (@ScottDochterman) September 26, 2022
Iowa is 5-1 in their last 6 home games against Top 5 teams, and only two of those games were night games. And we get Gus Johnson on the call. And Kirk Ferentz CLEARLY hasn’t used his one “remember and apply the lessons of the last 30 years of collective college football experience” card yet this season.

Michigan can sleep soundly about: Iowa is averaging 5.0 yards per target to their wide receivers. And with Keagan Johnson, one of the only two 4-star receivers on Iowa’s roster — missing from the depth chart this week, “Wide Receivers” will continue to mean “Arlan Bruce.” In the SDSU, Iowa State, and Rutgers games combined, Bruce had 21 targets. The rest of the receiving corps had a combined 6.

When they play Michigan: Hnnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.

This week: vs. Michigan, Big Noon Saturday, FOX (Iowa +10.5)

Preseason Rankings

(Intermat/Flo)

125- Kysen (24/18)
133- Ramazan (19/20)
141- Redding (26/NR)
149- Paniro (24/NR)
157- Isaac Judge (NR/24)
165- Carr (3/4)
174- Devine (24/17)
184- Coleman (5/5)
197- Bastida (6/7)
Hwt- Schuyler (16/13)
Team Tournament- (12/13)
Dual- (13/10)

Pretty fair preseason rankings from the 2 main publications. I expect to see major improvements at 141 with Swiderski there in place of Redding, 125 and 149 have the potential to end up higher than where they are but we need to see them prove it on the mat. I think Judge could surprise some people at 157 this year as I think he was a pretty small 165 and might be at his more natural weight.

Favre Scandal - Now x2

Been waiting and surprised this hasn't been talked about. With today's new bombshell, thought I'd post the links for discussion...

ISU Passing yards per completion

Is currently, #119 in the nation at 10.10 average. I understand Hunter does a lot of checking down at times, but given our QB and skills position players, I'm surprised this is so low. I think some of this is on Tom Manning as well. During the Baylor game, when we went downfield the success rate was really good. Again, just thought this was interesting.
