2022 All Iowa/Iowa State team

It’s after the 4th of July so can I start a thread on this. A,ways enjoyed these threads and wanted to put mine out for discussion. My rules, it’s position group regardless of position. Five best offensive linemen. Four best defensive linemen. Three best linebackers and two best running backs. True freshmen not allowed. I think X will start at Iowa and be a great player, but he hasn’t played. Rankings assumes all players stay healthy. Injury risks basically ignored. So with no further wait, my picks. I’m ready for the ridicule and being called an Iowa homer.

Quarterback: Jirehl Brock, wildcat. Just kidding. I guess Dekkers. Optimism that Petras will be better with a simplified offensive but mainly he was just offensive.
RB1: Brock. More experience and he has looked good. I know that ISU has some speed guys that they think good things of but he’s my pick.
RB2: Gavin Williams. Looked good in the bowl game. Not a bunch of experience here for either team beyond Brock.
WR1: Hutchinson. Not a lot of doubt with this one.
WR2: Keagan Johnson. Maybe my first homer pick. He’s really talented and showed some great ball skills.
WR3: Jaylin Noel. More returning production than Bruce, who I think is going to be pretty good.
OL in no particular order: Trevor Downing. Solid player. Wasn’t he all conference? Connor Colby. Justin Britt. Cody Ince, if he can only stay healthy. Mason Richman. Same deal. Showed really strong flashes if he can stay healthy. Hardest position group. Isn’t Remsburg back this year? Almost put him on.
TE: Sam LaPorta. I don’t know there’s a lot of debate here.
Yeah, I know. 12 players. So what. My ten my rules.

DL in no particular order. Will McDonald. No doubt. Joe Evans edges out Isaiah Lee. He isn’t going to start but he has a bunch of experience. John Waggoner. Lukas Van Ness.
LB. I want to put four linebackers in here. Benson, Campbell, and Jacob’s for Iowa along with Vance for ISU. I guess I’ll leave off Benson and take Vance. Deep group.
DB: again, position free. Beau Freyle. Riley Moss. Jermani Harris, I think he had four picks. Kaevon Merriweather. Just not much known depth for ISU that I could pick from and I think iowa will have a quality DB room. Again, I couldn’t pick Xavier.
Punter: Tory Taylor. Punting is winning
Kicker: I don’t know. Muppets understanding is that Nate Kaeding is going to get a COVID year.

There you go. Have fun. I’m certain I left someone obvious off.

RV SPOT FOR BAYLOR GAME

Hello! My husband turns 40 in September, and I rented an RV to celebrate his birthday. I need an RV spot for the Baylor game. Tips? Tricks? Leads?

Thank you for your help! I've attached a pic of the birthday boy! If you see him at the game, wish the old man a happy birthday!

2026 College Football Playoffs negotiations

The college football playoff negotiations seem critical to all the current and future realignment. But I haven't seen a lot of details about it. I know there is no TV contract in place after 2026, but is there anything in place?

Some places I've read it seems like it is just a free for all that every conference would have agree to be a part of. And Big 10 and SEC can just say no to participating. But a couple places it's said the playoff expansion in 2026 would not depend on a unanimous vote, but I have no idea what that means or what governing structure is binding past 2026.

Are unscheduled phone calls rude?

Had a lively group conversation over the holiday weekend about whether an unscheduled phone call is rude. A few points that were made:

- Phone call requires the person to stop what they are doing and speak to you at that moment
- Phone call is more personable and offers instant response for time-sensitive situations
- Email/text offers ability to review what was previously discussed and organize

I think preference here does differ between generations just based on personal experience in the workplace. Thoughts/Opinions/Hot takes?

Big 12 (16) Football Schedule

Now that it looks like the Big 12 will expand to 16 teams with Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado joining, I have been thinking about the schedule. I think that it should be a 16-team league and the two top teams play in the Big 12 Championship, but for scheduling purposes ONLY, there would be 4 pods. Here is how I think the pods would go:

Arizona/Utah pod
Arizona
Arizona State
Utah
BYU

Texas pod
Houston
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU

Old Big 8 Contiguous States Pod
Colorado
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma State

Outlier/Non-contiguous Stats Pod
Iowa State
Central Florida
Cincinnati
West Virginia

I know that fans looking at it from our point of view are saying we should be with KU and KSU, but I can't find a way to do it without breaking up the Texas schools. In addition, the conference is not going to do it from an Iowa State perspective. In addition, we would be in the same group as Cincinnati which is an area that Campbell has been recruiting and in Florida.

For scheduling, you would play the teams in your pod every year and rotate the other 6 every two years. For the other 6, I would group teams like this:

Arizona/Arizona State
Utah/BYU
Houston/Texas Tech
Baylor/TCU
Colorado/Oklahoma State
Kansas/Kansas State
Iowa State/Central Florida
West Virginia/Cincinnati

You would play one team from each group not in your pod at home and away over a 2-year period and then switch for the next two years. This would guarantee that everyone plays in Texas every year and pretty much in every region every other year.

Planning to be a grandparent

Looking ahead at the next 5 years of my life and will most likely be a grandparent. For the grandparents out there, what are some things you've done (new hobbies you've taken up that you do with your grandkids, or investments into things like maybe a lake home or a swimming pool) that you are really happy you did that has become a huge part of what you do with your grandkids?

Anti-trust question

If there's someone on the board that knows the subject.... Is it possible that if the big ten, sec and the tv networks execute all of this in a certain way that there would end being a case that could be made for anti-trust legal action to be taken against them?

And I would ask this question even if we all end up being happy with how Iowa State ends up. Which I think we will.

Are the new 4 schools guaranteed entry into the Big 12?

SIAP, but what if we just conceeded the east coast (WVU and UCF) and added the Arizona Schools, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and Washington?

Gets us to 16, still gives you a geographic alignment (somewhat), and locks down the major players on in the midwest and west coast.

My question is, do we like that idea and is the Big XII locked into any deal with UCF or WVU once the TV bill of rights is up?

Conference Realignment Sucks

It isn’t just about who might get left out. The destruction of regional conferences that were together for almost a century is brutal to watch. How can anybody look at this and feel like it’s a good thing for college sports?

It just feels like this is the “late stage” for college sports, for lack of a better term. The golden age is over and now we’re destroying all the institutions that made it so great.
