Dumb or Pre-Paid Phones

Anyone got one or can recommend one? I feel like I have seen some people mention it around here.

I am attending a couple security conferences next month that are known for their tomfoolery and hooliganism. So I am essentially in the need of a Dumb/Burner phone that won't be connecting to the internet and will be thrown in the trash right after.

Thanks in advance

2023-2024 Hoops Lineup Projections

I derailed the 2023 recruiting thread a bit so will take the discussion here. The below outlook certainly comes with some assumptions about recruiting commitments, guys not transferring out, use of covid years, etc. This is a thread laced with speculation, I am aware.

2023-2024 Scholarship Chart

Freshmen:
Jelani Hamilton (6'6" G - Austell, GA) - COMMITED
Milan Momcilovic (6'8" F - Pewaukee, WI) - Iowa State lean, commitment announcement coming 7/15 or 7/16
Omaha Biliew (6'8" PF - Waukee, IA) - Iowa State lean, commitment expected around September

Sophmore:
Tamin Lipsey
Eli King
Demarion Watson

Juniors:

Seniors:
Jeremiah Williams (Eligible for an additional year beyond 2023-2024)
Caleb Grill*
Robert Jones*
Hason Ward*
Tre King*

* - Super seniors who would be using their Covid year in 2023-2024

At minimum that puts us at 2 scholarships available. Seems more likely we'll have more like 3-5 scholarships available though. Jeremiah Williams and Tamin are the primary ball handlers of the future and Watson/Momcilovic/Biliew/King?/Ward? project us to be pretty loaded in the front court. With that said, it would seem that the main focus in the portal would be on scoring guard(s).. perhaps similar to the IZB or Jaren Holmes pickups the last two springs. Eli King could fill that role but it's hard to say right now. Caleb Grill is a guy who TJ would certainly welcome back as a veteran who strongly embraces our culture principles but he would need to take another jump to become a starting level Big 12 player.

A hypothetical starting lineup might look like:
Williams
_______ or Eli King
_______
Milan
Omaha

Bench:
Eli King
Tamin
Grill
Ward
Hamilton

What do you miss/appreciate about Iowa?

What do you miss and/or appreciate about Iowa?

This is primarily for those who have moved away, or those from out of state that have moved to Iowa or lived in Iowa for a significant amount of time.

Positivity is appreciated! We have plenty of negativity already.

EDIT: I've seen a lot of references to traffic and wasted free time. To that end, how much time would you out-of-staters say you waste in traffic on average?

Cutting weight

Can any of you who are more knowledgeable about wrestling sell me on the benefits of cutting weight? Looking at the roster I see that Conor Knopick, for example, wrestled previously at 132 and 138 pounds. On the roster, he’s listed at 125. Maybe it’s more common than I realize, but it seems odd.

These guys have an interesting discussion on the topic here:

Big 12 Expansion (New New Thread)

The Last "New Thread" lasted 10 months and resulted in many many too many comments covering too much time. So here is a New New Thread to focus on the second conference alignment upheaval in a short year.

So, My opinion is: PAC - take them all, take some, go after other east coast teams, or sleep and wait to become wolf meat again.

I say "GO BIG OR GO HOME. Negotiate a merger with the remaining PAC teams and add two more from the east to make the first mega conference of 24 teams. All teams will benefit from away game exposure across the country. Create either three or four divisions with separate tv packages for each (1st & second tier rights) and go after the new streaming channels that are now looking at college sports to fill their broadcast needs (third and fourth tier rights). No more non-conference games. The broadcasters do not want to show games against Louisiana Crawdad College, or Slowpoke University or Montana Wool Gatherers Academy.

How would you like to play regular season games in December in California, Arizona and Florida?

On That Note: It’s All “2” Much (Part 3, 2002 & 2012)

Welcome to another edition of “On That Note,” CF’s weekly music series, co-hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

This week, we conclude our annual albums-by-decade series.

For part 3, post your favorite LPs released in 2002 and/or 2012. (Those years only, NOT the entire decade.)

Include 3 or 4 sound clips with each selection. In addition to the tracks, we encourage you to expound on why the album is meaningful, including personal history of your relationship with the record and its music.

Choices should focus on studio albums. Avoid greatest hits/live LPs/compilations. We’ll allow it, but it should be a definitive element of an artist’s body of work that isn’t otherwise available from studio output.

If someone posts an album on your list before you get to it, you still may reference it, but use different song samples.

If you’re more singles-oriented, you may substitute top singles from either of those years.

Credit cards

This will go over well with the Dave Ramsey folks on the site….

Wondering what credit cards people have? Do you get the ones that rack up miles? Do you get the ones with a percent kick back or discounts or what do you have?

My wife and I have loosely done the Dave Ramsey thing and are fairly conservative with our spending but have been thinking of getting a percentage kick back on things that we use our debit cards for.

Any input/feedback would be appreciated!

Monday Musings: Scouting Iowa State's priority targets

Enjoy.

‘Watcher’

I’d seen this trailer a while back and thought it looked good then kind of forgot about it which happens with small indie movies. Saw reviews were very strong and that it’s now available On Demand and gave a it go tonight.

Not a smart move when my better half is on a work trip and I’m home alone for a couple of days.

Starts off slow. Actually it’s a slow burn for a lot of the movie building up paranoia. Is she overreacting? Is the isolation making her this paranoid?

But man the tension and suspense is really top notch. Clever script. Acting is sensational. I jump/screamed/swore a few times. Very Hitchcockian.

Highly recommend. I hope this gets some word of mouth going and more people see it. Last 25-30 minutes are disturbingly intense.

WBB: Arianna Jackson in WNBA skills challenge

The WNBA skills challenge yesterday matched up eight teams consisting of one WNBA player and one AAU player at the Nike Nationals (which is in Chicago at the same time as the WNBA all star game). 2023 ISU verbal Arianna Jackson was one of the fortunate AAU players to participate (as was her All Iowa Attack teammate Ava Zediker, a 2025 player ISU has shown interest in).

Jackson was teamed up with Azura Stevens. Jackson did her part perfectly in the first round and spotted Stevens a lead, but the eventual champion Ionescu team came back to win.

If you have a cable/streaming provider with espn, you can watch here. Jackson is at around 7:15.
