Your Coaching Shortlist

realistic possibilities, in no order...
Bailiff (Rice)
Graham (Tulsa)
Jagwhatever (BC)
Patterson (TCU... I'm using realistic loosely here)
Stoops (Arizona)

These guys have all taken their teams to bowl games.

Things have changed for me now that Joepa signed on for three more years. His genius DC at Penn State - Tom Bradley - will not wait around now. Let's go after him. We would get recruits here that we would only dream of before...

Too bad we didn't get to Kevin Sumlin before he signed his extension with Houston. The best coach you have never heard of.

unless he buys season tickets....he will never enter the Jack.

We used to play Ohio every once in a while. Although, I wouldn't be totally opposed to Solich. I'd rather have Gill or Patterson. I do hope that we are able to retain some assistants in some capacity. They are still working hard to retain commitments.

Since Patterson or Peterson do not seem very realistic I would like the following:

Graham
Sumlin
Tubberville

I could live with Rhodes-sp if I new he was bringing in a big-time offensive coordinator.

Didn't Solich go to Ohio and hasn't he been doing pretty good? I wouldn't put him near the top of my list but he could be somebody to fall back to. His recruiting fell off at NU but he still won a lot of games, knows the Big 12 and would love to stick it to NU and the rest of the league. He has a lot of coaching connections and could probably bring and/or put together a good staff. This would probably be has last coaching stop too if he was successful. We could do worse.

arganbright, how big of a contract did Sumlin sign? The more I read about him the better he looks.

Midwest guy - grew up in Indiana, played at Purdue

Good list of coaches to learn under - Stoops, Tiller, Mason and I believe Slocum(Not sure if he was still at A&M when Kevin was there.

His offensive coordinator is from Mt Pleasant, IA and came from Texas Tech.

Defensive Coordinator - Scladany. I wouldn't mind having him back.

I really think Sumlin would blow-up like Gill if he has a good season next year. Maybe we can snag him before he becomes a hot commodity.

I'm not a Cowboys fan but his defensive line coach is a name some of you might remember. Jim Jeffcoat.

Drawback - Only 1 year as a head coach.

In no particular order: Brian Kelly, Gary Patterson, Glen Mason, Mike Price, Tommy Tuberville, Skip Holtz, Gary Barnett, John Cooper.

I know that we all wanted the next big thing with Turner Gill, but maybe what we need is an older guy who can get the program on stable footing and serve as the Johnny Orr for the FB program. Mason, Price, Tuberville, Barnett, or Cooper could do that for us. Yes, some of them have some baggage, but they know how to build a FB program.

I was wondering when Cooper was going to be mentioned. Is he in the nursing home yet?

He's pushing 70. Not a spring chicken for sure, but all the guy ever did was win wherever he went. He could come in and stabilize things for 4-5 years and then we could go get the next big thing.

Patterson(I can dream), Graham(there's your gimmick offense), Bailiff(taking Rice to a bowl is impressive in itself)...

All 3 of these guys would help with the Texas recruits...

Coach Cooper is 71, I think. Last I had heard, though, he was still a little miffed at getting passed over (for Donnie Duncan) when Earl Bruce went to tOSU. Would have been a great hire, in retrospect...

I have heard some not so good things about Graham at Tulsa, plus he took over for Kragthorpe so did he really build that program. With Malzahn (sp?) ,you got to think about his situation at Arkansas with Houston Nutt.

look what he did at rice (graham)... malzahn was only involved because hes was those players' hs coach ... it was mostly nutt's problem ... not to mention mahlzahn was being considered for the usc oc spot so obviously hes doin somethin right ...
