Yellowstone - new TV "western"

Agree about Beth's character. I realize it's television, and so it's a little over the top, but to think she can hit someone in a bar over the head with a beer bottle, or have a fist fight with her father's guest while the rest are sitting at the supper table is a little much. But I guess it makes for good drama.

I'm probably in the minority but Beth (and her storyline) is annoying me. That and I'm also getting sick of Costner complaining about being the Governor.

I'm hoping this upcoming herding trip changes things up.
Beth has been impossible to watch for a couple of seasons. I assume mouth breathers love her story line so it will escalate. I agree on the governor stuff as well.
This season hasn’t gone off the rails like last season…yet.

Anyone ever browse the subreddit for the show? It sure gets a ton of hate from people who tune in every week.

Anyway, I thought tonight was a great episode.
I watched last season out of pure hate. This season was working for me until last night. Beth ruins it for me. I can’t suspend my disbelief that well. I’d be tickled if they could kill her off.

Last couple episodes have been really good. Jamie telling Beth he regrets his decision then blowing off some steam by buzzing by her with the car. Then John's moment with Monica was great too. Last night you knee as soon as Beth was told to come eat in the dining room it was going to end ugly. But I like the setup up for the herding trip that could be another good episode next week. Kind of getting back to the roots of what the ranch is all about.

Also love the scenes with Josh Lucas. He originally auditioned to be John Dutton but he'd be a hard sell since he's over 20 years younger than Costner and over in age to Rip and Beth really. Hoping he gets his own spin-off show at some point.

You'd figure there's going to be prequels set in the 40s, 60s and 80s. He'll be perfect for the 80s prequel.

I'm hoping we get some sort of actual main conflict out of it, because the show doesn’t have one.

Beth is just a UFC fighter now, and the hippy lady might be the worst written character I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve liked the previous seasons so hopefully they figure it out but so far this one has been rough.

Less Beth probably. Shes been featured too much. Or you enjoyed the "Pro" that is humping Jamie getting dressed.

The directing and quality of live shots they got were outstanding and was nice to just have an episode where it was more "simple" and not as dramatic. They only gripe I have was they started the episode with the helicopters and setup a storyline about the President making a surprise visit to the reservation but never really got back to that much.

Also seems to be setting up Jamie for yet another huge letdown when they use him for someone else's agenda, chew him up and spit him out when they are done with him and just make him more of a broken and miserable man. They character is so vulnerable and gullible desperately seeking to feel he is wanted and everyone just walks all over him once they get what they want out of him. Just once would like to see him grow a sack and do something just for himself without some kind of strings attached.

Anyone catch the premiere of 1923 last night? Hoping its as good as 1883 was, definately a lot to process after the 1st episode.

As for Yellowstone I think we saw the start of what is going to be the 6666 spinoff with who Rip picked to go with the herd they are trucking south. Those were the rumored cast that would be part of that show so guessing we see Jimmy reunited soon too. The new twist with Jamie should be interesting too. I still think he's going to get burned once again and is just getting played by Sarah so that Market Equities gets what they want and Jamie will just be more collateral damage if they get their way.

They haven't officially said if Yellowstone is going to have a season 6 and I think this season is going to have more episodes than any of the previous seasons so I am starting to wonder if they are planning to wrap up this series and start focusing on the new 6666 show and other spinoffs like they have done with 1883 and 1923 as there are a lot of time periods in the 1900's they could make seasons out of. I am really hoping we eventually have a 1980's version of it with Josh Lucas as John Dutton as I think he does a great job in the flashbacks they have and would be really good at the role for a full season in that time era.

Jamie is a walking disaster, so of course that's going to blow up in his face

1923 seemed to have a lot of moving parts to try and piece it all together, lots of story lines to follow. But the cattlemen vs. the sheep herders is a story line that has been around since they first started making westerns.

Yes. And I really enjoyed it. You cannot go wrong with a TV show when you have Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the cast. Also, Bronn from GoT and Robert Patrick? Just a killer cast, much like 1883 before it.

I have not been able to watch the current season of "Yellowstone" as I don't have Paramount on my regular (free) cable package. I was disappointed in Season 4 though, and the season finale did just enough to make me want to watch Season 5, which I will as soon as it goes to streaming.

Yup! Every now and then I hope that he finds the acceptance that he so desperately seeks and he finds some happiness but then he falls into yet another trap where someone is using him for their own agenda. I will not be shocked if the demise of this character is eventual suicide. He's already so mentally fragile and unstable as it is that as soon as Sarah gets what she wants and ruins him in the process I don't know where else he has to turn because there is no going back on the wheels he will set in motion if he goes against his Dutton family once again. Either than or he's going to find himself on a ride to the train station.

One other thing that is a bit creepy is John and Summer. In real life Costner and Perabo are 21 years apart in age which is right on that line of "he's old enough to be your dad." Hoping there is more coming for her purpose on the show because right now it's just kind of a creepy fling. The storyline is supposedly he needs her to be his "environmental advisor" so when are we going to see her get involved with the mess they have going on with trying to use that angle to save their ranch.
