I watched the KState, Okie St. Game last night and talk about a fundamentally sound team KState is. They are well coached and are in the right position to make plays and they also DO NOT BEAT THEMSELVES. We on the other hand are not fundamentally sound which is the coaching staffs problem. Tackling was horrible yesterday, out of position etc. etc.

I know the injury bug has plagued us yet again this year, but other teams sustain injuries as well, but keep chugging on. We look lost on the field on both sides of the ball and it's bullshitt especially coming off a bye week. Me personally am not satisfied with the results the past two seasons, sorry to expect better and want better for Iowa State, but right now it's ugly.

When the first two passes were dropped in first half minute by our awesome receiving corps, the game was pretty much over. Seems like there were 10-20 dropped or blocked passes by defenders. This should not happen at home when the other team made it look like a spring day. Did we ever successfully play a cutback by the OU runners. Maybe one by Morrisey. This defensive effort looked really inept. Who was the fifth defender coming over to fill the gap. They were waiting for a pass to be made and were out of place? That was the most cutback wide open on the range running that I have seen by one team. It was over and over again. Did we have a linebacker out there? Thank god KU is terrible.

Due to the new offensive staff, he needs another year.

Now, part of what worries me is that I could see another new staff member in the next year or two (D coord?). And then you should give that new guy a season or two to work things out.

Then Mangino leaves . . .

I'm a little surprised at the number of people who think he should get at least two more seasons. I can get behind giving him one more year to turn things around in 2015, but some of the posters here are really chugging hard on the kool aid to think that his recent performance merits two more seasons.

how I feel this is going to play out

Iowa State finishes 4-8, beating Kansas and Texas Tech. Fans are excited by the "progress".

End of season- Wally retires, and Iowa State hires a new DC.

Next season- Iowa State wins 4 more games again. The offense is now average and the defense stinks still. Same split of the fanbase next year regarding CPR.

2 years from now- Iowa State wins 5 games and gets hosed in one from the refs, Iowa State keeps CPR for next year as the new DC is still figuring things out. Fan base is still split on whether CPR should be canned or not.

3 years from now- CPR wins 4 games, JP fires CPR due to poor attendance and ISU gets a new coach.

I say we win out this year, go bowling, finally beat a C-USA or AAC team, and hire Will Muschamp as DC after Florida cans him. Next year, we go 8-4 and have our first winning conference record under Rhoads, including an upset at Oklahoma. Two years from now, we start the season ranked #23, start out going 6-0 and climb into the Top Ten, and finish the year 9-3. The late season "slide" (we'll be calling a .500 stretch a slide by that point) is all but forgotten when we destroy an SEC team in a 48-7 bowl game romp. Three years from now, Lazard's and Campos' senior season sees us go 11-1, punch a ticket to the playoffs, and win the whole damned thing.

In early February, Paul Rhoads is announced as Nick Saban's successor in Tuscaloosa.

What's also interesting about the poll, is the clear evidence of a vocal minority that wants him to be fired now or at the end of the season. All the threads about firing him now appear to be started by a small number of people. Very interesting.

This is exactly what I think will happen. Also, it sets up perfectly for the our coaches are new excuse. I'm sure there will also be young guys playing big roles like there is for every college team every year, so that will excuse the poor play and lack of improvement throughout next year.

Maybe Rhoads is catholic and has a very large family?

Still only 25% want Rhoads gone. Maybe the vocal minority should tone it down a bit, eh? For example, instead of 20 new threads about wanting the coach fired this Saturday, take it down to 10 new threads. Just out of respect for the masses.

Always love when the silent majority finally shows up in a vote. Unfortunately,it still doesn't silent the vocal few including Hawk fans that hang out here just to seed discontent.

But we are trying to recruit others to the dark side. Not that we know how to recruit - being that we watch CPR try to do that. BAZINGA!

I think what's getting lost here is the apparent fact that 1 in 4 Cyclone fans want CPR fired by season's end, barring a miraculous turnaround. I don't think CPR or JP would take that lightly. It wouldn't take much - a loss to Kansas for example - for that percentage to grow.

Yes, the fact that the majority of fans responding are uncertain about Rhoads past one more year is ignored in this talk about the "vocal "minority" says it all. Yes, the most extreme choices, in this case giving CPR five more games or less, will almost always be the minority.

It's actually lower than 25%. This is a non-scientific poll. Most of the people that want Rhoads fired are "younger" in my opinion. And younger people are more likely to be on message boards. If you opened this up to the entire fan base, I'd bet a good sum of cash it would be lower than 25%.

I'm amazed that people think we can do better than the coaches we have. NEWSFLASH. The trio of Rhoads, Burnham, and Mangino is the best we could ever hope for at ISU. If we can't win with them, we are not going to win... plain and simple.
