Would Iowa?

I don't see Texas taking over the Big 10 if they get in. They will be on a more level playing field and won't receive every advantage in the book. They will have to play in cold weather, won't have as easy of a schedule like the Texas/Oklahoma/Nebraska/Other 9 conference gave to them. Money doesn't necessarily result in dominance. Ask Michigan. Penn State was pretty dominant when they entered the Big 11 too.

Texas will gravitate to the mean in the Big 11. Yes they will be a leader in the conference. But I see them joining the ranks of parity that the Big 11 always has.

I agree w/ this. Going to Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin, etc. on a November Saturday will be a shock for Texas. I see things being fairly level in the big 10.

Then you're kidding yourself if you think they'll join.

I really think Texas goes independent and starts their own Network. They'll play about 4 tough teams every year, and feast on cupcakes. And not have to listen to anybody.

I’ve actually thought about this quite a bit. If I were a Hawkeye fan (shudder) I would not be too excited about the thought of expanding, especially if it involves TX. If/when Nebraska goes joins they present another tough challenge for Iowa. As of right now I think that this is a fairly even contest in football with both teams being able to win about 50% of the time. This would actually make a pretty good rivalry if this were the case.

Now if TX joins they will need almost certainly end up in the same division as Iowa and I just don’t see how this helps Iowa at all. Besides $$$, and yes I know that this is the main reason for all of this BS, but besides more $$$ what does Iowa stand to gain from this. As the two programs stand right now Iowa cannot compete on a regular basis with TX. I would venture to guess that IA might win 2 out of 10 games against TX if that.

I don’t buy all the “well this will open up the state of TX for recruiting” line because lots of schools recruit in the state of TX right now and Texas pretty much gets the pick of the litter and everyone else gets the leftovers. I’m not saying that some other teams from the big ten might not get good players but they still will not be “stealing” players from UT.

It seems to me all this does is create ANOTHER roadblock for Iowa to face to get to the Conference Championship game and have the chance to play in the BCS. In this setup Iowa plays TX as well as Nebraska every year and then if, IF, they by some chance win their division they go face MI/OSU/PSU/MSU etc in the championship game.

If I’m Iowa I am all of a sudden not so giddy about expanding.

I'm not salivating over it. I'm well aware that Texas will probably beat us more times than not, any realistic fan should know this. Anyone who says we will own them is an idiot.

And to answer the original question, I don't want either ISU or Texas.

That answer lets me know you could give a rats *** about what would be in the best interest of the STATE of Iowa, with regards to revenue and notariety.

I think the people who are saying that Texas will walk into the Big Ten and dominate are giving the Longhorns too much credit. As for the question at hand I can't say I want Texas ANYWHERE near the Big Ten (they'll destroy it within 10years)

Texas has one advantage that will never go away...Texas HS football. They have the best recruits in the nation sitting in their backyard waiting for an offer. Texas already has 20+ recruits committed. The other little eleven schools will get a boost but Texas will still get the best of the best.

And while you poke fun at the"other 9"...keep in mind the little eleven has Minny, Indiana, Illinois, Mich (believe it or not but hey suck), Purdue, MSU. Not to mention the little eleven will try and pick up Syracuse and Rutgers. Sorry but not exactly scary. I would take games against Iowa and Wisc before playing TT and Okie St. any day. ANY DAY. Notice I didn't mention NW...well that is because they OWN iowa.

Not sure how you can say the little eleven has parity...tOSU has owned the league for the last five years

because you know that ANY big 12 team could come take over your conference right now. Hopefully our boy Pollard is inking a deal with your conference right now. BCS, here we come.

Buh, buh, buh - we have conference titles and BCS appearances! - Iowa fan

Texas would dominate that conference. The first year they would come in....they would win it. I'm sure they would gladly play little iowa or wisconsin over osu, a&m or tech. Be careful what you wish for Big Televen.

This is not what I would be worried about as an Iowa fan. I'd be worried about NU and UT dilluting the Championship pool. The argunment that Iowa fans make with regard to Penn State (that they didn't come in and dominate) proves my point about the B10; If Indiana, Illinois, and MSU are the only teams not to win championships since PSU has been in the conference why would you expect this to change?

NU and UT are traditional football powers. The more B10 championships they're winning (even if the championships are spread out as they are now and they are not "dominating") the fewer Iowa is winning.

No way they want Texas. They're saying they don't want Iowa State, but what's the big deal about having ISU? I mean... they SAY they will beat us in everything so I would think it just pads their record every year. What are they so scared of? That a "bad" team like ISU will dilute the Big Ten in some sport? Just in case they missed it. THEY ARE THAT BAD TEAM in basketball and what is Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, and Northwestern in Football? ISU can compete with any of them in football. They're just high and mighty and think their conference is great when in all reality, I think they're worried their little step brother from Ames is going to kick their *** more times then they'd like and hurt their conference record.

Perfect post. This is exactly it. They just don't ever want to give us that chance.

Iowa Fan is a spotlight *****. He doesn't want any attention paid to any other school in the state but his. I actually believe that Iowa Fan thinks if the ISU program blows up, all the Cyclones would become Iowa Fans.

My opinion is 16 team leagues won't work. You will get 8 schools in 1 division thinking they are better than the other division and why should they split of all that TV money with that weaker other division. With 16 teams 1 division will get to the point where they hardly play or know the teams in the other division. Which will lead to these mega conferences splitting up. In my opinion 12 teams were too much. Cap conferences at 10 teams, make them play the other 9 with 3 non-con games in football. For basketball play an 18 game conference schedule with no post season conference tourney. But I realise I am in the minority on this one.

Write it down, they will completely blow up their next conference, 16 teams with opinions. IMO 16 teams leagues wont work.

Yep... The perfect number of teams in a conference to have different ideas on how things should be run and when that divide starts to get wide enough the conference will split. The Big 10 is heading down a very dangerous path and they won't survive it. Texas will make sure of that.

The guy might be might often make himself look like a dolt and as a result few of us like, but at least he's one of our own - which hardly makes him a troll. You, on the other hand...

Why am I a troll? I came in and gave an educated response to another poster. You guys sure are a sensitive bunch when it comes to outsiders on your board.

FWIW, I too think CyPride is a troll. He thinks that Kirk Ferentz flooded Kinnick Stadium in 2008 and that I'm a Hawkeye fan for going to a Wilco concert in Iowa City. He just says idiotic things to rile people up.

Or he's bat **** crazy.

I know, it's odd isn't it? Especially when there are dbag hawk fans coming over here pouring salt into the would. I can't think of a single reason ISU fans would be ****ed right now.

Sorry.
