Indiana is like Kansas. Nobody really cares about football. Plus, they have Notre Dame and Purdue in their state. And they are fairly close to Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.

I don’t know about this. Iowa has a pretty easy formula working for them. There will always be crazy brainwashing in state, and as long as Illinois sucks (along with their entire division), it will be hard to mess it up.
You could have said the same thing about Nebraska at the end of the Tom Osborne era, but look where they are now.

Rutgers, MD, and Indy are all in the same boat imo. They will NEVER get to the CCG. Never.
Before the emergence of the P2 I would've agreed with you. But now the NIL + transfer element coupled with giant TV money makes NO JOBS in the B1G the worst job...with the right boosters...except maybe UNL because of their ridiculous expectations and lack of self awareness.

I feel like there’s a tipping point between coaching salaries and the will to win. What that number is? I don’t know. At some point coaching with no chance of winning becomes a pit of apathy. I think that is going to be an interesting thing in 5-10 years. Those fan bases are already accustomed to losing, but they still are probably rabid and want to see results and are hopeful. I think that will change over time, those fans go away or become “we have more money!” fans, they don’t care about coaches producing results, so they don’t care if the coaches don’t care.

I would say Nebraska for the same reason others have stated - the expectations vs reality.

Assuming Frost is gone after this year, how long does the new coach have to get them into a Bowl game? I'd say the seats going to get warm after year 2, and will be scorching after year 3.

Once they get them to a couple of bowl games, how long until their seat gets warm without a Conference title? By year 6 or 7?

If they get a conference title, how long do they have to get a CFP bid? Year 9 or 10?

At each of those levels, there's going to be a segment of the fanbase that's ready to get rid of the current guy to bring in someone who can take them to the next level. I don't think they'll be content with Iowa or Wisconsin levels of success.

That's an interesting point, and once they do away with divisions, I think you can add Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue and Northwestern to that list. Iowa would avoid the list only because some years their schedule will be playing those 8 weakest teams.

Other than Kansas, I'm not sure you can say any Big 12 teams will never play in the CCG.

The OP said: let's define worst as the place it would be most difficult to win at consistently.

For that reason I said Northwestern. They are in a city where no one cares about them. Their stadium is a joke (they do have an upgrade planned).
They are darn lucky to have Pat Fitz, but even he has struggled to win consistently.

Rutgers and Indiana make a strong case as well.

Based on the OP, I don't see the answer as Nebraska. With the facilities and fan support they have, it shouldn't be difficult to win there consistently. Pelini had no problem winning consistently.
Being a bad job due to unreal expectations is a different poll/discussion.
Yeah if you are going to use that qualifier it is actually a completely different question. NW is great to be a coach at because they are very loyal to coaches and don't expect greatness but they will never win consistently. NW and Indiana are the two that would be the hardest to get consistent winning seasons but they aren't bad to coach at the way it is at Nebraska.

Yeah, I made it sound like you could just throw money at RU football and win, which Texas proves every year is false. But I stand by my initial statement simply because Greg Schiano 1.0 could've done it, imo...

Indiana has gone over .500 in football 3 times since 1994.

I mean that's just tough.

Northwestern because the student athletes have to actually be good students. What Fitzgerald has done there is unbelievable. Besides Barnett having limited success in the mid 90s, Northwestern has been the laughingstock of BIg 10 football

Indiana is the clear choice imo....no history, the third most popular program in its own state in football, is in the tougher division of the B1G, and has to compete for recruits against juggernauts

and Iowa fans do care....their admin at least has that going for them...the same can't be said for a school like Illinois

Nebraska is the popular choice, and probably for good reason. I don’t think Rutgers is that bad because do they really care?? I don’t know.

I voted Illinois simply because I don’t understand how they are absolute garbage every year. I know they have basketball fans and have had success there, but football is awful. They remind me of a less basketball successful Kansas.
Did I see what I thought I saw - last Saturday, the IL game was on TV and there were many more empty seats than filled - surprising and sad ??

Fitz has worked miracles and while the admissions requirements are tough for Northwestern, at least they're close to a major city.

I went Nebby but I honestly think it could be the best. Get the job, do jackshit, get fired, get paid millions for years. They've been doing this for years. How is that a bad thing as a coach?
