Worst Defeat Ever?

I'm in the same camp... and seriously considering calling it quits on ISU football. Getting too dang old to care anymore.
I'm still "All In" on Coach Rhoads...but there is no doubt that a 71-7 defeat to Baylor will create some wonderings about what he will do right the ship. I;m confident he will. Not impressed with tonight, but I'm still confident going forward.
This is absolutely correct. 04/05 were potential breakout years. Who knows what will happen in those games. Ask Nebby, k-State about the times they played an underdog...
And 71-7 is optimism to you? 1-5, on top of that....and another meeting with a top 20 team next week....
I know margin-wise this was the worst in history, but I think you can argue that the most disastrous loss in ISU history was 2002 to OU. Top 10 team, Heisman frontrunner, dreams of a Big XII championship........ and got absolutely exposed in Norman. Just a close game would have legitimized us as a program and possibly kept the momentum going on the season, but we all know how that played out.

Ya, that was pretty deflating. It was 28-0 at about the 8 min mark in the 1st quarter.
You guys want a laugh? Read the facebook comments on ISU athletics posting of the score. Some serious delusion in this fanbase.
The most balanced comment I could see on a quick-look there was "I still love my Clones, but that was embarrassing."
Eh, we lost another one big but it's just one of many. Turns out CPR isn't going to lead us to a Big XII championship, probably ever, but I never really thought he was. ISU has just never had a program destined for greatness and a winning tradition. Blame it on the climate, the lack of a winning legacy, etc, etc, the reasons don't matter to me. Maybe we finish the season with a win and maybe some coaches get fired, but it won't really change things. We'll always be a middling to bad team in a conference that's probably just about average. I really don't think the season ticket holders and/or boosters expect us to go bowling every year and they are foolish if they do because we simply aren't a team that can guarantee that. I think we need to be satisfied with the occasional freak upset and a coach that gives good speeches and savor those moments where we truly overcome all odds.
The '97 Nebraska game was 63-7 at the half. Not that it really matters at that point.
The fans do expect to beat FCS. At least we would have two wins then. UNI lost their third straight today.
This game tonight was like a flood coming up the Mekong Delta. It never stopped with their third string. It just kept coming.

ditto---that Nebraska team would maul this Baylor team-----I have been going to games since Clyde Williams field...this is the worst defeat by margin---and actually I'm giving the defense credit for keeping it where it was...as Messingham's offense makes it near impossible to win a game.
Really? Dude just described the last 30+ years of Cyclone football. Hell, the last 100 years of Cyclone football minus a couple of above average seasons in the 70s and 2000s. When there's 100 years of history saying you suck, it makes people a little doubtful that we're ever going to be knocking on the door of 10-win seasons.
The current coaching staff (especially seasons/games like this one) isn't doing a whole lot to instill confidence that we're about to turn the corner / take the next step / (insert lame cliche here).
