Worlds tallest building opens in Dubai

A perfect time in the global commercial real estate market to open this bad boy up.

For over a billion dollars to build thats a pretty big investment. I just hope it doesn't get bombed or have an airplane flown into it. Probably not the best thing to think about but its hard not to.

Or some freakish weather attack. I understand your hesitation on those comments, but building stuff like this triggers psychos to want to push the limit.

I love skyscrapers, but its gotta be way easier for a company to build a a 5 story mega building horizontally in a City Suburb than going vertical in a downtown area.

You don't build this building because it's easy. You build it because it'll be the tallest in the world (for at least 6 months). You design it because you're SOM and you are one of the biggest and well-known architecture firms in the world. And why, you ask? Because you are Dubai. Because you have made your existence known to the world through projects like these. Because that is who you are.

I visited City Center in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve. I believe the cost of City Center was approximately $11 billion. Dubai World is a joint partner in City Center.

Was talking to one of my nephews who is an architec and he said that building is crazy. The top floors are pressurized much like an ariplane because it is so high. He said the design can go gone much higher if desired. Architecs were worrried about money to build it. He also indicated the extra cost operating of a building this size are huge. (Pumping water to the top, elevators, etc.)

People are freaking out over their debt? They should look at Americas debt.

Fortunately, America's debt isn't relying on how much oil is left in the ground. When those wells go dry and the world refocuses it's energy needs that area of the world is going to get real interesting.
