if the mayor would not have taken the job, where do you think we would be with recruiting? i look at the players fred has been getting, and i think he is doing a great job to build the program back up. how would the roster be looking with anyone else as head coach? i think its great the fred has been getting kids to transfer in. having those players with experience at the college level will be huge! most other coaches would most likely just go after high school kids and then we would have to wait for them to develop. good times... if this makes no sense, i apologize... been a long night full of many beverages!

I believe other coaches may have tried the JuCo route to balance the classes a little, so that we don't have 7 freshmen in one class. I much more like the transfers, though they cannot play right away, because they are proven at D1, and JuCo players seem somewhat like a crap shoot and have so much to learn to play D1.

He definitely had a major hand in it, but its been said that Hoiberg's connection to the NBA has been a big selling point as well. If he can prove that it works, recruiting will explode.

TJ is awesome though, no doubt.

We can talk how great he is.....but honestly we've yet to see anyone step foot on the floor and play. I THINK he is on the right path, but time will really tell.

Any new coach would have gotten players. Who has Iowa State really beaten to get any of its new recruits or transfers? Proven offers, not internet b.s. Freddie is doing great but his first attempt at a piecemeal recruiting effort looks a lot like McDermotts. Not a lot you can do when you take over a program in May with almost no players left. You find warm bodies.

I think Fred has a unique abiltity to sell a program and that has helped. I'm anxious to see how it plays out on the court both this year and in the near future. We have a lot of talent in place for 2011-2012 I hope they learn alot from each other this year and have time to gel.

They're a good team, TJ and Hoiberg. TJ is a connected talent scout and great person when dealing with teenage kids and their parents. And Hoiberg gives TJ something to sell (imagine trying to sell McD's program for 2011). I'd give 'em equal billing, personally.

Pretty much all McDermott's new recruits (Phillips, Rainey, Ejim, McKnight) came into Freddies's camp. We even had a shot at Hamiliton. The way things were unraveling before McD left, I am not sure we would have necessarily keep all these guys in the fold. With the cloud hanging over the program I am not sure McD would have had 8 scholarship players on the team.

I wish Fred could have stepped in immediately after our last game last year. We lost a month or so waiting for Creighton to help JP out.

Another question...what if Fred would have been hired instead of McD when McD was hired? He was interested then too....

As does most of the fanbase...Which is way, IMO, JP is a genius.

There's not telling, but I don't think those 4 additional years working for T-Wolves hurt

Most of you guys would be getting ****** at an ISU legend.

I imagine that our recruiting for this current class would be pretty similar minus the transfers. We'll see which direction Hoiberg really wants to go with the 2012 class IMO.
