Whoo, this season is starting out with a bang against #7(Matscouts) Wisconsin. Here is how I see it shaking out.

125 Barnett dec Terukina. Barnett has continually gotten better and is Seth Gross primary workout partner. This will be a very tough match for Terukina. 3-0 WI
133 Lamont dec Redding. I ythink this a toss up, but leaning with Lamont as a precious AA. 6-0 WI
141 - Swiderski dec Zargo. I think with an early weigh in, Swiderski will have plenty of time to recover for this match so I expect a much better version than we saw in wrestle offs. ISU needs this match. 6-3 WI
149 - Gomez maj Johnson. This could be 6 as we know how dangerous Gomez is. Hope we can keep off our back. 10-3 WI
157 - Model dec Kraisser. This is a great opportunity for Kraisser. I think he is an NQ level guy, but Model a little more proven. 13-3 WI.
165 - Carr dec Hamiti. Going to be fireworks! Both guys are quick, athletic, and like to mix it up. I think Hamiti keeps it close, but Carr holds on to win. 13-6 WI
174 - Broderson dec Otto. Solid controlling win here. 13-9 WI.
184 - Coleman maj Dow. This match should not be close and I expect Coleman to pick up right where he left off and dominate. 13-13
197 Bastida dec Amos. Amos is solid and tough. It was a 3-2 match at NCAA last year. I expect a close match again, but Bastida gets the TD and the win. 16-13 ISU.
Hvy Hillger dec Schuyler. Hillger is just too proven. 16-16.

Key matches:
33 can ISU pull the upset.
41 first real test for Swiderski.
49 can we limit bonus.
65 of course

Swiderski and/or Redding have to win before our upper-weight hammers come out to play. It's the only way. If either or both of them win, we've got a shot.

I do think there could be a fall in there that obviously changes everything (particularly worried about Paniro).

Agree a win at either 33 or 41 is a must.

49 really worries me too. But I could also see Coleman getting a fall.

Duals are fun and they never go like you think.

33 and 41 are by far the most interesting matches in my mind (other than the obvious 165) to really see where those two guys are at, especially at weights that seem like pretty big cuts for those two. Big opportunities for both Swiderski and Redding to make some early statements.

Definite bonus points possible at 174/184. Wisconsin is just not good at those two weights this year, especially if they're going to send Rowley to some opens before putting him out here in a dual. Marcus should at least get a major. Otto isn't very good, but has always managed to wrestle tough and keep matches close at 165 but is 3-13 in his career against D1 opponents. I would love to see Julian open it up and push for a major as that'd be a really nice sign.

Predicting a loss at 174 seems a bit pessimistic. I think we have 4 guys better than Otto.

I actually think this is a huge match for Broderson as much as any other guy. He’s been in the program awhile now. He’s had his time to grow and develop. He looked good against MJ until the one flurry. He’s getting his opportunity with Joel out. It’s put up or shut up and I’ve been a positive supporter of him so far.

125 - 3-0 Wisconsin.
133 - I actually think Redding takes this one. Remember the hype as a true freshman? I think we forget he was pretty good. Coming back down to 133 shows me he’s committed to being the man. 3-3
141 - give me a 5-3 Casey win. 6-3 cyclones.
149 - 12-5 loss and I wouldn’t be surprised if they throw Cam out there to avoid a pin. 6-6.
157 - good guys take it. 9-6 Cyclones.
165 - Carr looks great and wins by 3. 12-6
174 - Broderson gets it done. 15-6
184 - Coleman dec. 18-6.
197 - if Yonger was really 240 like we heard a month ago, he’s going to be hurting down to weight for the first time. This is a toss up as Amos is legit and capable of beating anyone. I’ll say Bastida but I’m nervous. 21-6
Hwt - take the L. 21-9 final

125: Barnett dec. Terukina (0-3 Wisc). Terukina has looked good early on in years past, Barnett was pretty consistent throughout all of last year and will probably be about the same this year. Terukina needs to finish quickly and avoid scrambles if he wants to have a chance to win. Edge to Barnett because of his mat wrestling.
133: Redding dec. Lamont (3-3). Redding already has a motor, the time off the scale *should* add to it. Lamont is probably favored, but I think Redding gets it done in a really close match if he can stay away from getting marched around the mat in a 2-on-1 / Russian tie
141: Swiderski dec. Zargo (6-3 Clones) would expect the time between the scale and the dual to benefit Swiderski and give more "pop" on finishes. Swiderski makes a statement
149: Gomez major Johnson (7-6 Wisc) More of a credit to Gomez than anything. Pace will definitely be a factor here. Paniro has pulled some out late, like last year against Storr at Edinboro, might need some late-match heroics to avoid a major.
157: Model dec Kraisser/Judge (10-6 Wisco). Not sure who matches up better against Model between Judge and Kraisser. Seen both struggle against lengthier guys like Yant, Tanner Cook, Mantanona, etc.
165: Carr dec Hamiti (10-9 Wisco). General question, when was the last time in college someone has gotten Carr to scramble with them or get to his legs consistently? I think he gets a TD or two and that will be enough
174: Broderson dec Otto (12-10 ISU). Broderson had a great summer, liked how he looked before the fall against Gaitan. Definitely a coin-flip match but my cyclone bias says Broderson.
184: Coleman major decision Dow (16-10 ISU). Colemon gets 3 or more takedowns this match and finds a way to get a major
197: Bastida dec Amos (19-10 ISU). Favor Bastida on feet, 50/50 on mat. Would not be shocked if Amos wins either. Expecting both to take a jump this year. 3-2 type match again.
285: Hillger dec. Schuyler (19-13 ISU). Could definitely see Schuyler winning this match if he can get out from the bottom. Looked great on his feet in his win over Hendrickson this summer. Gotta give edge to Hillger just because he's more proven at this point.

With my Cyclone Glasses on, Final 19-13 ISU

No matter how this goes, the season doesn’t get over till March so I’m telling myself to remember that.

YB and the rest of the team made weight for wrestle offs. This dual is also last so he should be fully recovered.

The late weigh-in will be a big help to Amos as well, he struggles with the cut to 197.
