So, I'm sitting here sipping on a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and was wondering if we had any wine connoisseurs on this board?
Although I enjoy beer more, I don't mind having a glass of wine every now and again. Any of you guys have a favorite wine you like to drink?

Any reds from Argentina, Chile, New Zealand or Australia. French and American Reds are awful. California and German whites are good as well.

Find yourself a nice Malbec and enjoy

I've been on a dessert wine kick lately. I'm a big fan of Moscato. Most iced wines are good too, good for my sweet tooth and they typically have a higher alcohol %.

I'm taking HRI 383 - Wine, Beer, and Spirits. It's primarily a wine course. I'm learning a lot, but it's really an uphill battle; it's tough for me to quantify differences between wines, and to describe them the way we're intended.

I generally like sweet or moderate whites, but while in Spain and France this summer I really started to develop a taste for moderate reds. I'm still learning. At this point I know a lot more about beer than I do wine, but I've been drinking beer quite a bit longer.

I've always hated wine. No matter how fancy or expensive.

Last year...shortly after I hit 40...I tried some French Pinot Grigio
with my Chicken Alfredo and all of a sudden I got it.

Now I love certain wines with certain foods. Its really awesome. Dont
rule it out.
This is coming from someone who drank nothing but Busch Light for
15 years.

I've had some nice Sonoma Valley reds from the US.

The white wines out of the Mosel river valley in Germany are awesome.

Oh don't worry too much about trying to pick up the little differences. As long as it tastes good to you, that's all that counts. You'll find over time you'll be able to distinquish a lot, by just tasting a lot...

Normally, I would agree. That's how I learned (and am still learning) beer. However, this is for a class- I do need to pick up the little differences. In fact, I will need to be able to try a wine and not only determine what grape it is made from, but also where that grape was grown, when it was likely harvested, and what type of container it was fermented in. It's not easy stuff.

I thought about taking that class, but heard it was rather difficult for the reason you just said, so went a different route.
I just wanted a class that was an easy A and you could drink free booze. :biglaugh:

which Germans are you most fond of? Riesling I assume? Maybe Gewürztraminer? We tend to stick to the sweeter Germans. Have you found others?

You should also try Malvasia Dezzani (Don Bosco). It's a sparking red Italian, very similar to Moscato, but red.

The Rieslings are what I have the most experience with. My boss over there used to get cases of it from a private vineyard.

I've never really had a bad German Riesling. Everybody talks about how good the French are at wines, but the Germans have some pretty good niche wines...

I love love love love love wine. I guess it doesn't help my far removed relatives/ancestors own a famous winery in france, so I think it's in my blood to like wine or something.

I drink beer more lately, I love good beer, but I ******* love wine. The drunk off of a good wine is just amazing too.

Malbec is one of the best...last May I had a nice 2005 or 2006 Reserve. Tasted like Christmas, but it was still great in May.
