Will Rhoads have success at ISU?

Believe it or not, there is already a firepaulrhoads.com up and running, telling us to ask Gov. Culver to remove Rhoads and Pollard. It's so comical that it's sad.:no:

Anyway, do you think Rhoads will succeed at ISU?
 
I guess maybe we need to have a finer definition of success. What now do we consider successful 7 or 8 wins. Or are we talking 10 to 12 wins. I say a definite yes to the 7 to 8, but I don't know if he can bring in the talent to get us 10 to 12.
 
Undecided; Since Rhodes has no prior head coaching experience and has yet to name most of his assistants,there just isn't enough information to make an informed decision as to his chance for success.

What is meant by successful? Going back to the Mac Era, probably yes. Going to the "next level" that we were supposed to be going to with Chizik? probably not.
 
Goes with the territory.

I remember Hawk fans wanting to fire Ferenz and Bowlsby the first 3 or 4 years and then they were the golden children after playing in January..
 
To me, success means that we are typically playing meaningful games in November. Either playing for the North division title or at least bowl eligibility. When you are already eliminated from bowl possiblilities by the end of October, November isn't much fun.
 
I would say "success" would be enough wins to keep us competitive year after year. Eventually, he will have to win the north or he will face the same doom that McCarney faced.
 
I'm saying "Yes". It may take a year or two for him to be able to "re-build" this program but it shouldn't be to hard to have more than 5 wins in 2 years.
 
Alarming record . . .

Our Cyclones are 3-21 in conference games the past three seasons.

In my mind - despite a number of fine young players we believe we have on the roster - a full-scale rebuilding job awaits Coach Rhoads. He must have five years to fully implement his plan.

OTOH, could be success will come sooner rather than later. (I like another poster's definition of success in this thread: Playing meaningful games in November.)

Personally, if I did not believe Rhoads will not be successful here, I don't see how I could continue to be a fan. It's an act of faith, I know, but Rhoads will be successful at Iowa State.
 
By succeed, do you mean something more than just being Big 12 North Co-Champs?

For now my answer is no. But if you asked me again in April, after the Spring game, my answer could be different.

Of course Paul Rhoads will be successful at ISU er I-State....This guy is here for a long haul and if Jamie is half as smart as I think he is...Paul Rhoads will join Greg McDermott as long time coaches at ISU...

Notice how heart broke Jamie was when Chizik bolted for the south? Jamie does not hire HIS GUYS to fire them...

Anybody notice how Gene Chizik only stayed one winter in Ames and it was the worst winter weather in a long long time??

I predict that things are gonna get hot for old coach chizik in alabama real quick..aka when the football season starts :biglaugh:
 
My definition of success will be a career coaching record of above .500.

Everyone thinks MAC was a success and he wasn't even close to that.

If PR can coach us to .500 or above throughout his career, it will be an unbridled success.
 
I would say no idea, since he doensn't have any prior head coaching experience. Good thing is he does seem to have some team loyalty, Auburn ask him for 5 years to be D coordinater before he left Pitt.
I wasn't ever totally sure the Chizik was ever our ticket to the next next level, I always felt that as soon as we would have had any success, he would be gone. too hard to recruit, not enough money and the weather sucks in the winter would have been lots of reasons to leave, not many to stay. I was hoping to enjoy the ride to the mythical top, but guess we won't be doing it with Chizk.
As I orginally stated I have no idea where we are headed ,but I voted yes because we have to support our new coach and look forward to next season because that is what Iowa State fans typically do

Yes. I am not concerned about his age or no head coaching experience. Look at Mike Tomlin with the Steelers, age 36 and .650 winning average. Obviously he took over a talented team especially defensively, but other than last weekend, they have not faltered under his leadership. This is not the same thing with Norv Turner.
