Why was Monte off the ball all game

He played really well when he was in. He was also putting in some amazing effort.
Not sure what your definition of "really well" is, but in 3 minutes he had 1 turnover, 1 rebound and went 0-1. I don't think that's really well by many people's standards.
With the way WVU plays, this was not a good game for him to get in. He can't handle the ball well enough and isn't quite mature enough yet to handle the physicality of WVU.

He didn't light up the stat line but when he was in he was the one who stood out. He was the one making the effort plays and really working.

Because Prohm forgot he had one of the best point guards in the nation so he was forced to roll with Burton crashing and mostly burning his way into a defender and turning the ball over.

It's okay though. This coach still has us on track to make the NCAA Tournament. -_-

Really
Why didn't Young play more?

I hope he gets more minutes. Considering our lack of size, he seemed to be really trying to create something positive even though he's green.

For some of you criticizing Prohm for not using Monte more...... were you at the game? I focused in on Monte a ton and Carter was denying the crap out of him. Monte couldn't even get open to get the ball on end line or sideline out of bounds. Never seen anyone that could do that to Monte for that long. Burton had to inbound it to Matt for the most part. And when Monte did try to penetrate, how many lay ups or fouls drawn did you see him get? I don't fault Prohm for going with Burton. He did have 10 assists. Don't think Monte has had that in any of his last 3 games, has he? Just wish Deonte didn't have 5 turnovers and would have caught a Matt a few more times. Just wish we didn't have KU up next to try to get a bounce back game.

Young was not good tonight. The time to make him useful has passed, that broken finger/hand came at a terrible time.

Babb and Matt played great I thought, and Burton was pretty good bringing the ball up, driving and dishing. Just needs to force some contact inside but thats not him.

Monte and Holden were average selves.

Naz and DJ were not good.

Bowie and Young were pretty bad in their spot minutes.

Burton was a beast at driving and dishing tonight.

Honestly gotta give WVU credit here. Their defensive gameplan was definitely to deny Monte looks and disrupt him from even getting to the ball. Worked to about perfection, Monte had to work for everything he got tonight, and it wasn't much.

I'm not sure what to make of our offense right now. It is such a poor offense when shots aren't falling, and the problem is nothing we run is really great at getting us looks. I don't think WVU was much better in the halfcourt, their banked 3's probably inflated the final score a bit. But Prohm did not have an answer offensively.

I hope things are better once he gets his players in, and dynamic players no less. Deonte is the only player on our team I would call dynamic, but sadly you also have to admit that along with being dynamic he is erratic.

You can point to offensive woes, lack of size etc. I think the biggest problem this year is chemistry. Chemistry and talent. It sucks to admit, but Naz peaked halfway through his sophomore season. Jackson is either in a funk or not as great a shooter as advertised. Babb is one-dimensional, can't shoot real well...it's just, quite honestly, a team comprised of role players with no alpha dog.

What sucks the most is that it will get worse before it gets better. I am much more concerned about how we finish this year, but we very realistically could finish 10th next season in the Big 12.

I was kinda surprised watching the game to see Morris set up in the corner and just stand there while someone else initiated the offense, especially down the stretch. I expected to see him charge up to the top of the key to get the ball from whoever had it and he just never did. I was bizarre to see. I was also surprised to see how few times there were plays run for Matt Thomas to get a shot. he was crushing it last night but it seemed liked minutes would go by where he never touched the ball.

Naz and Burton made a ton of terrible decisions with the ball down the stretch and really seemed to torpedo any effort to climb closer. I was rooting for you guys to get the win but was really surprised at Morris not taking charge and coming up to demand the ball. It was just a really strange dynamic down the stretch for the ISU offense. Not sure what was going on.

You just sort of summed up the ISU season....I tried to deflect it but trends have piled up and the last two games were the top.

Plenty of head scratching moments. I expect KU to name their score this Saturday.

And if I were Shaka Smart, I'd let ISU build a solid 10 point lead to let Prohm make his adjustments so Texas can take control and win comfortably.

Just seemed to be some weird stuff between Monte, Long and Burton going on. Not sure why Morris was not demanding the ball. Being denied the ball is one thing but you can always run up and get it via hand off. He just hung out in the corner until the first shot went up several times which seemed really bizarre to me. I don't know, I don't watch you guys to know if that's normal but it didn't seem to be what I expected. Just strange.

I think doing this caught WV off guard. Caught me off guard, as Deonte seems like he's too loose with the ball to fill that role (if you asked me going in). With that said, it worked for a while until WV kind of started pinching at the top of the key to prevent the drive. We needed some kind of adjustment to that.

We could have had Deonte break the press and camp Naz and Matt in the corners all night but either Burton didn't want to do that all of the time or Prohm didn't want to do that all of the time.

Nope, that wasn't normal...although it was a lot of Burton breaking the press vs. Adrian which was effective. They got back to Monte dribbling around for 15 seconds and going to the side for a fadeaway a few times though.

I hate to play the 'body language' card but it seems like there's quite a bit of bickering between the players; that may just be something I notice more just because it's the team I see the most.

I'm sure Prohm will take a look at the film and see what he maybe could have done since he was thinking about it.

God I'm way too fired up about this game and team of 18-22 year old kids...time to go put my head in a snow bank or something.

I think it's one of those times where the team needs to rally and refocus, and have some honest conversations about where they're falling down (coaching staff included). I have no doubt that they will, as their expectations are high, and I know they're putting in the work.

Morris isn't like Mason, or Tinsley - his game isn't crashing to the rim. He's NOT a physical player, and WVU is obviously a physical team. I think that may have been intentional on Prohm's part, although for a time (when Babb was driving) I thought we might be able to get some of their guys in foul trouble. Tough when Huggy goes 11 and 12 deep, though.

Having said that, it was beyond weird watching Burton bring the ball up. Kind of like watching an elephant go down a steep hill on roller skates. You don't want to see what happens, necessarily, but you can't look away, either - or you might miss something really spectacular.
