Why ISU lost...

did u hear kalipari at half? ill paraphrase but it was something like we are a good 3 pt shooting team. we just don't shoot many because we usually dominate inside. Whether true or not, its an arrogant statement.

They are, and they do. That's why we sagged in, and made them shoot those shots. We had to take something away, and we did a great job in executing the plan, but they stepped up and made the shots.

We needed to play perfect game and KU needed to be off to win. KU played a great game and ISU was off, so they won

ISU lost because they played a better team. Kentucky is awesome.
What if we had won the game? The other night we played a better team, and beat 'em. Shot better than our avg. 3's ...all I heard were excuses from the media on how UConn just didn't gel... ISU played at a faster (or different) speed... the list of excuses goes on. Had we missed our... (let me put it this way), had we shot our avg. in the UConn game, we could've very easily lost. Had we hit our avg. in this game, we more than likely could've pulled it off. The officiating wasn't stellar, but it wasn't bad enough to complain about. Nobody got out-coached. Nobody got hurt. Nobody had a lot of complaints. In my opinion, I feel we certainly had our chances, and "the 3's just weren't falling." Had we won... You know for a FACT, there would've been excuses galore for Kentucky losing the game. But, this is just a tournament to determin a "Tournement Champion." I HATE that they call the winner National Champion. All it takes is some gutty little Cinderella to come in to the tourney with a 20-11 record, and win the whole damn thing and they'd have to call 'em world champions. And they might not have even been ranked coming into the dance. fwiw.

Can you imagine how good Kentucky would be if Royce would have made it on the plane? I am sooooo happy he didn't. But Kentucky would destroy everyone, if Royce got on that plane. Thank you Royce, for not getting on that plane.

No we did not play a better team on Thursday. Even before the start of the tourney, comparing accomplishments of each team this season we were clearly the better team.

You didn't hear? Oh, you're new here so nevermind. But a CFer said the other day that on the UK fan site, their fans were saying he wouldn't start on their team.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, ...but nobody is answering the what if's! SERIOUSLY, what if our 3's were falling? they were close enough to go in... I didn't really see anybody from Kentucky swat any of our 3 attemps away. We had good looks at the basket (hurried and rushed) for no apparent reason at times, but just the slightest of adjustment on the shot and we win. (again IMHO) :)

I love being an optimist

Knowing that if both teams would have had their average stats for 3's, it makes the loss hurt even more because we know we could have kept it very close and possibly won.

I'm not really new here. I read just don't post. But their fans are f***in dumb f***s. They don't believe their players are on a payroll. Just look at Calipari's track record. His teams have to vacate all wins after he leaves. If you think he won't leave, he leaves when he gets the scent of the NCAA on his trail. As you have seen since selection sunday, no one knows really how good Royce really is, except anyone that knows the Big 12 or is in the Big 12. Since he never made it to Kentucky, the hillbillys never knew what he is all about. After tonight, they are all going, "Aw shucks, he done be the best player on our team if he could have gotten on that there flying vehicle thing."

Everybody knows UK has more talent, and Scotty usually struggles against real good guards, so that was no surprise. But if CA and Tyrus hit a few of their open 3's, and if we convert on several of those easy put backs, we're right in the game, even as hot as Kentucky was, and that's the frustrating part. But I loved the way Gibson again showed he can score against anybody, and his future is sooo bright. Awesome year for the team under Fred and if RW is back, look out next year.

Looking at the stat sheet at Cyclones.com:

1st half, we shot 38.5% overall, 12.5% from 3, 85.7% from the line (48.4%, 30.8%, 100% for UK) and were outscored by 11, 38 - 27. I thought there was no way they could keep shooting nearly 50% in the second half, and was sure some of our threes would start falling. 2nd half, we shot 42.9% overall, 14.9% from 3, 66.7% from the line (64%, 85.7%, 100% for UK - holy ****) and were outscored by 5, 49 - 44.

In the second half, the best team in the country had potentially the best overall shooting half of any team in the country this season and we played them pretty even though I know it didn't feel like it.

Yeah it would have been a different game if we'd hit our 5 pointers. Seriously, nice breakdown. They really played out of their minds that second half.

Teague was awesome for Kentucky. ISU choose to sag off of him and he hit his shots (so did the rest of the team). Also, Kentucky beat our $%# on the boards. Whenever we could get a stop they would get the offensive rebound.

It also would have helped if we would have shot it better from 3 but to be honest when Kentucky shoots it this well it wouldn't have even mattered.

ISU and Kentucky both scored 12 offensive rebounds. They had 9 more defensive rebounds than we did, partially due to the fact that they just weren't missing their shots. Can't get a board when they make the shot.

ISU had 3 more "second chance" points than UK (13 - 10) and even more points in the paint (38 - 24). UK had more points off TOs (13 - 8), fast break points (11 - 2) and points off the bench (22 - 13).

We did a good job limiting their bigs. They were able to get out and run more than they should have, but that's partly because we couldn't hit anything from 3. They just shot the ball too well tonight.
