Why is Kinnick Stadium considered historic?

Back at it early today after the debacle of a Monday you had. I like that determination.

The second sequence has roots at Arrowhead Stadium, where Iowa faced Kansas State to open the 2000 season. Kansas State featured a video opening of a train blowing past an opponent. Iowa decided to incorporate a similar opening sequence with Riggan’s black semi-truck, which hauls Iowa’s equipment to each game.

When the new video board was introduced in 2005, music was incorporated. Palmer said former Iowa center Brian Ferentz — son of Coach Kirk Ferentz — recommended Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” The pulsating, heavy-metal anthem is a classic at numerous college football stadiums, notably Virginia Tech, and the same holds true at Kinnick Stadium.

So original at Historic Kinnick.

Not to mention a tornado siren blaring during a football game and the always lame "thats another Cyclone....FIRST DOWN!"

And "Sweet Caroline".

That's not a dig at us here. The "another Cyclone...FIRST DOWN," has had many people here calling it lame for years. Not only lame, it celebrates mediocrity.

again..the Gator chomp? Did some drunk Iowa fan from Dundee, Iowa start this @ Kinnick after watching Iowa-Florida in the Outback Bowl circa 2006, and thought nobody would notice?

Its been around longer than that.

Im not even sure how it originated.

Man, such a rough day for @JP4CY. He even double downed by disagreeing with this post.

You should talk Mr "Obsessed" with CF!! Posting at 12:47 and then right back at it at 7:06. You seem to put way more effort into CF than you do with your family. Nice.

Pretty sure it was after Iowa beat Florida in a bowl game. I've heard from a Hawk friend before that Iowa fans started doing it at that bowl game to mock/get at Florida.

Iowa beat FL in the 2004 Outback Bowl and I am fairly certain it has been around longer than that.

I vividly remember going to games as a kid back in the mid to late 90's that I thought the student section would do it. I could be wrong, it has happened before.

No bigger attention-wh#res than the U of Iowa, their fans, their media, their athletic dept.
.......The fraud ANF promo, the 'waving at sick kids' etc.

Guess what? If you're a drunk obnoxious Hawk fan in Kinnick watching a game---and wave at the sick kids in the new children's hospital, you're a still drunk obnoxious Hawk fan in Kinnick

It doesn't make you better than the next person, even though Iowa fans LOVE patting themselves on the back

So you are against waving at the kids? Despicable if true.

Iowa played Florida in the 1983 Gator Bowl (and lost). If the bowl game origin story is true, it was probably that one.

They should have put WNTM on there helmets:

"We Need Turf Management"

They needed all the help they could get when they had a real grass field. Field was horrible when it rained.

Thanks for the history lesson.

This will be the 10th season of Historic Kinnick Stadium having field turf.
