Once their fans start numbering those of Iowa or Iowa State - and the money follows - then and only then have they earned more coverage. It's what makes money and Drake vs Crappy U doesn't sell ads to make up for bumping a regular show off the air.

Totally agree with kgreeny and wartknight here. They don't get the attention that ISU and Iowa do because there are a lot more people that care about ISU and Iowa.
I'm happy for Drake and their quick start. However, as many people have pointed out, they are 9-1 this year. They were 9-2 last year and then promptly went to 9-7 starting out 0-5 in the Valley. I wish Drake luck but they did the same thing last year and didn't make the NIT. Let's see them make some noise in a weaker Valley this year before people start going nuts over them.

I agree with that, it's not like they've defeated anyone so far. If they were 9-1 and Iowa/ISU were good teams - that would say something.

Exactly. But my point was that these fans calling into Coltar thought they deserved all of this attention for starting 9-1. When really they don't.
I'm curious as to why we care what goes on during Cotlar's show...especially when it pertains to something other than us.

With all this Valley talk I started thinking about UNI and their great football season again. Did I just miss out or was there very little follow up to them pissing the #1 seed down their leg?? It seemed like I couldn't turn around without hearing about the "feel good story of the year" in Iowa the weeks leading up to the playoffs but then I haven't heard a peep from Cedar Falls in a while.
Drake fans have no argument until they start to support their team by buying tickets. They also don't have much of a statewide fan base. A few loud mouth complainers isn't going to change the situation. Only the fans and the school can do that - not the media.
Compare Drake to Creighton. Similar size private MVC schools. Historically Drake went from Maurry John fielding teams that drew good crowds to Vets. Note to Drake fans - MJ, Lewis Lloyd, & Co are long gone. Their last teams and crowds at Vets were pitiful. They then chose to build a crackerbox gym. Even with a decent team, it's a struggle to draw over 4-5,000.
In contrast, Creighton had a vision that is paying off. They typically drew 5-9000 in the old Civic Auditorium with an occasional 10,500 sellout. They also suffered through the lean Willis Reed era. Still they made the decision to commit to moving to the 16,000 seat Quest Center and are now the hot ticket in town. Point taken. But I was listening on my way to work this morning and the Drake people calling in annoyed the crap out of me. Almost to the point where I nearly called in (which I've never done).
He hasn't been on because he's been sick. I enjoy hearing about Drake, ISU or UNI but will turn the station if it's Iowa.

It's Chuck Reed. He sucks 10x than Cotlar. He tries to argue with nearly every caller even though normally he is wrong.
I am happy for Drake, they have a class coach and it is a tough place to win over the long haul. They certainly have not won any major games to this point in the year, but I am still glad to see them get off to a good start. I hope that Drake and UNI both have nice seasons. And I know I will take heat for this, but I find that I can tolerate (please note that I did not say I am cheering for them)Iowa much easier now that Alford is no longer there. At least the focus seems to be on improving as a team and not the coach being the focus of the entire program. My two cents worth.
I think my problem with Cotlar is that he rarely allows much "free air time" for calls. He'll once in a blue moon take a stance on an issue but then he doesn't give people any chance to rebute his unfounded view on something. Marty & Miller seem to do that quite a bit also, just throw their opinions out there but their show is so packed (usually with just the 2 of them talking) they don't have time to let people argue with them.
Boys ..Boys ... Puleez this is the big story...On the nite that the bulldog of drake could only sell 6100 tix and uni sold 7K tix...The Iowa State womens b-ball team drew almost as many fans and regularly outdraws the drake men, drake women and the uni men and the uni women!!
