Why didn't the Big 4 Classic work?

When both ISU and Iowa played both Drake & UNI each season, maybe. Assuming first round is ISU-Drake and Iowa-UNI one season, switched the next. A downside to it, chance of ISU and UI meeting twice in the regular season unless the home/away rotation was dropped, which I doubt would happen. Also an occasional chance UNI & Drake could meet 3 times per season, since both in same conference.

My alternate idea (when all teams were facing each season) was to do Iowa/UNI & ISU/Drake on one day, the reverse on the other day.

I would enjoy the double-double, but that's a lot of basketball and money. So, I think just one day of action would be best.

I worked the tourny last year and was right down with the teams and coaches. I heard MULTIPLE TIMES from coaches how des moines was one of the tournament locations and best experiences they have had. They raved about the ease of traffic and location and also the ease of the arena and getting to and from the floor from the locker rooms and training rooms. I will argue this all day because ive seen it and heard it from coaches and teams in person.

There aren’t 4 “Big” teams in Iowa so the premise was flawed from the beginning.

Regular season, neutral-site basketball sucks because the atmosphere just isn’t that good.

The marketing of this was botched by only having it on Mediacom. Great way to gin up interest is to get people to watch it on tv at home, but a lot of the state didn’t have a way to watch it, so it was hard for casual fans to care about it.

@Urbandale2013 How do you disagree with this? LOL the design of both buildings isn't a matter of opinion...

Mr. JP, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. The disagreement is over whether there is any viewing differences with the design differences. Personally I prefer the design of Wells Fargo. The big complaint there is resolved around the fixed seats and the hockey floor. I think there are valid arguments with that but the upper deck viewing experience is better at Wells Fargo. I was trying to find my pictures yesterday from the Big 12 tournament to compare side by side but I’ve always had a better experience at Wells Fargo when in the upper deck.

Now I’ve never sat lower deck down at the Sprint Center but I’ve never had real issues with Wells Fargo. Like I said there’s probably valid complaints for some of the end seats but I’ve always been able to see fine. I think the concourses are set up better. Sprint Center I haven’t liked. It seems very expansive and sterile.

Are there improvements that could be made to Wells Fargo? Absolutely. Is it a bad arena for basketball? Absolutely not.

Wells Fargo is fine from the sides but behind the baselines and corners is where the design comes into play...

Count me in the camp as wanting to bring this back. It's good for the state of Iowa. I am not buying the "if we win, it's expected, if we lose, bad loss." UNI has had a tough team almost every year. We have lost to both too....Keep these games in state. 4 team tournament.

To each their own. I'd just as soon schedule all three teams at Hilton with only Iowa getting Home and homes. If Drake and Uni want to play us let them come to Ames. I've went to the ISU-Drake game at the Knapp we are their most expensive ticket for the entire season by far. If I remember correctly this holds true for both MBB and WBB.
