Why didn't the Big 4 Classic work?

Jesus, none of that has anything to do with Well's Fargo Arena being a sucky b-ball venue...
Ok, then just dont go to games at the Well then. They wont miss you. It will sell out every year they host. I do not plan on seeing you there if ISU is put there in the future. Enjoy watching on tv and ******** about the arena

Don't tell me what to do, dad.

This is correct. The things they really look for include capacity, amenities for teams and NCAA staff and the ability of the hosting entity to put on a quality event. They are also looking at whether the host metro has the infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, night life) to support the event. Whether the fans have the best view of the game is probably tertiary at best. As long as television viewers can see the game they really don't care.

I challenge you to go look at attendance numbers from last year's tourny for first and second round and tell me that WF being one of the smallest matters. I worked the tourny last year and was right down with the teams and coaches. I heard MULTIPLE TIMES from coaches how des moines was one of the tournament locations and best experiences they have had. They raved about the ease of traffic and location and also the ease of the arena and getting to and from the floor from the locker rooms and training rooms. I will argue this all day because ive seen it and heard it from coaches and teams in person.

Thanks for reinforcing my points about it really being about everything but the in arena fan experience.

...because when people say that, it suggests to many of us that you haven't been to many arenas outside of Hilton...

note: also, the size would only suggest the there would be fewer bad seats than larger arenas....which one would know and understand...if they've been to several arenas in their lifetime.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm being an ass, but that is how it comes off when someone complains about WF....i.e.. feels they've pretty much only seen BB games in Hilton and maybe a few other college arenas. It scream ignorance of the realities modern day arenas.
I’ve watched b-ball games at Hilton, Allen Fieldhouse, Bramlage, Bradley Center, Fiserv Forum, Carver, Sprint Center, and Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo arena totally sucks. I’ve also had a corner seat at one point in pretty much all of those and by far the worst was Wells Fargo. Glad they quit the Big 4 for so many reasons.

Sprint Center has a steep pitch so the upper deck still feels like it's close to the court. I've sat in the upper deck behind the basket in both arenas and the viewing experiences aren't even comparable.
I just don’t get what people like about the Sprint Center so much. I mean I like it but the overall fan experience is better at Wells Fargo IMO. I haven’t sat in the lower level down there but upper level viewing was comparable with the concourse set up better at Wells Fargo.

Luxury boxes have ruined these new arena's and stadium's. The upper level seats are way too far away from the action.

Maybe it would have been more interesting if it would have been set up with two games on Friday evening. Then, have the losing two teams meet on Saturday afternoon in a consolation game, and the winners playing Saturday night for the “Big Four Championship”?

There can never be a Big 4. It was doomed from the get go.

I always thought the name of the event was kind of awkward vs. the um, 'excitement' it generated nationally.

Can someone explain what makes it not a great bball venue (other than not having 15k fans on the same team at the game?) I'm not disagreeing - I don't know enough about these things to have any opinion on it.

IMO the seating is narrow both the seat width and the amount of room for your knees. For the ncaa's if I remember right they put a bunch of floor level seats that have no sight lines directly behind the baskets. But other than that it's a great place:rolleyes:.

Now, a nice "Rivals" double header with Iowa State / Iowa playing Arizona / Arizona State, Tennessee / Vanderbilt, Washington / Wash. State, Clemson / South Carolina, etc. would be fun / fun.

So would that be a two-day setup and each set of rivals plays both teams? So ISU vs. Arizona, Iowa vs. ASU on Day 1, ISU-ASU/Iowa-Arizona on Day 2 (or in reverse order). Or, only one game for each team?
