Who's left?

Or they are going to quit floating names around here because when they do and we lose them to Hawaii, the coaching staff looks bad.

This is the real issue here. Fans can't be mad about very bad recruiting misses when they don't know the recrutis we have missed on.

This board turned sour because we are sick of losing. I think a losing program is driving away more recruits than this board. But hey, play the blame game if we must.

ISU's MBB program is pretty crappy and we all know that but if anyone actually believes the message boards hurt recruiting more than the team losing for 4 straight years and GMAC's players fleeing this disaster, well that is the clueless person.

I would take KG's info with a grain of salt. Its probably based in truth but coated with BS, like the Clyburn wanted to redshirt info. That was ridiculous from the get go. ISU isn't in the position to back off any recruits right now.

These.

The fact is, if we were winning, what was said on a message board would be a moot point. GMac is not winning, which is primarily his job, and because he is not winning, fans will *****.

The blame game needs to first and foremost start with the leader of this program, because if he was doing his job right, there would be less ********, and we would have a more attractive program to sell to recruits.

Wow... Thanks for all the recruit possibilities guys.
All I wanted was a little conversation on whi were looking at and alls I got was some more b i t c h i n g on how this board helps recruits determine if they want to come here or not.

Actually, it has become tiresome. Every thread turns into Mac bashing or state of the program bashing. Time to get over it - like it or note, Mac will be back next year. I am actually slightly excited to see some changes coming down and hoping we'll start to see improvement in the team.

AND... what would you know about a coach doing his job? How many games have you coached in your life time? What magic pill have you taken that all of a sudden makes you the expert on college basketball and how to run a program? Most of the commenters on this blog have zero experience in the coaching arena and thus set behind their little computer screens and pontificate on a subject that they know nothing about or have no experience whatsoever. I will take you and yours seriously when you have coached a season or two at any level of basketball...men or women, preschool through granny leagues, anything.

To answer OP. We won't know. The staff has apparently made a conscious decision to not give out any names on who they are targeting. Our program has been turned down by a lot of recruits lately.

907cy. We have zero experience but we are the ones paying the bills by buying tickets and donating.

It doesn't take a bball savant to look at the last 4 years and realize it's not working,

Wow....you believe this as fact just because KG says so? Don't you see this is just more spin? Amazing.

No, Dryburn, I don't take KG's posts as gospel. I do, however, find them informative at the time he posts. I am realistic enough to know as soon as he posts something, which is most likely true at the time of his post, it may change a day later.

Go back through me thread/post history. I have questioned whether the negativity on this board is healthy for our recruiting efforts. KG's post, here, just affirms.

I think the people who 'diefy' (read someone else use this word awhile ago and I liked it) KG, which is NOT fair to him or the info he provides, are the ones who are throwing him under the bus right now because things haven't panned out.

All of these people have 'allowed their faith to run their lives'. It's kicked them in the pills, so they've renounced and chosen a different, darker path which CAN infect other areas.

Sounds a lot like Star Wars, huh??

If Greg McDermott goes to a restaurant and gets a raw steak, soggy vegetables and finds a booger in his potatoes, I'd say he's qualified to say the chef is doing a lousy job despite his lack of work experience in the culinary field. Well, he'd probably tell kg-cyclone and have him say it for him, but still.

So, if you don't like the product then take your money and balls and go home. I am sure, no positive, that there are people out there that would fill your seats.

and, he probably would not go back to said restaurant and would not discuss it with his friends either. Maybe you should take lessons.

Wow - I don't think you're being sarcastic, unfortunately. You don't need to know anything about coaching to criticize the coach. All you need to be able to do is count wins versus losses. The rest is superfluous, so long as the coach isn't violating any rules.

What point are you arguing? That people aren't qualified to say the program is a wreck, or that they should just keep it to themselves? Pick a talking point and stick to it. And by the way, I've never posted a gripe about McDermott, so sit on your lecture and spin on it.

Sorry, I just see KG's post as another in a long list of excuses. Never have those excuses included a single line of criticism of GMac. It has always been someone else's fault that the program is not succeeding and the team is not winning. Never does the blame fall on the one constant in the program the last four years.

I seriously doubt that this message board, or any message board has a seriously negative or positive impact on a recruit's decision. If you are going to complain about negative comments hurting the recruiting, then should you not also give credit to positive comments made about recruits when those recruits do indeed sign? If the negative comments drive recruits away, then logic would say that positive comments brought us Colvin, DG, perhaps Lucca, and made CB come back. Would that not be fair? Or is it that the effect can only be a negative one? Is that what we should believe?

As I have said before, if a recruit looks at this board, they are going to see a lot of fans who care a lot about ISU MBB. They are going to see a lot of fans who are very disappointed on how the program has gone the last 4 years and its current state. Recruits are not blind. They know that ISU has not had a winning season in the last 4 years. They know that many, many players, both very good and marginal players have left the program. If they truly believe in themselves, they will think that they can be a part of the class that helps to turn this around. I really don't think what some anonymous fans say on a message board is going to affect them that much. Sorry.

This is just spin.......pointing the blame at anything else besides the real problem. When you do not point any of the blame at the main cause of the problem, you lose all credibility. At least for me you do.

OK Dr. Naismith. You want to post a picture of your Championship Trophy? After all, how can you criticize someone else's lack of experience in coaching if you don't have that experience yourself? And that magic pill that gives you wicked insight to coaching D1 basketball? I'll pass on taking mine and forward it to GMac. He needs it more than I do.

I think some posters in this thread would have felt right at home in Communist Russia. Their views on what can and can't be said about Cyclone basketball are analogous to the position that the state should control the content and spin of media stories, and those who speak out against the state should be silenced by being sent to Siberia.

907cy...there will be plenty of empty seats available to purchase next season. There will not be many fans buying these extras.

I really doubt MSG boards have any affect on recruiting. This is my opinion, it's okay if you disagree.

What does affect recruiting is wins an losses. Recruit are not coming here because we are a losing program.

I think what you are referring to is censorship/propoganda with your "Communist Russia" comment? If that's the way you see things, fine.

The way I see it...it's a democracy with more than 2 legit parties. Instead, there are 300+ legit parties. In order to get someone to join one, you have to be able to SELL it as best you can with things that are within your control.

And the fact that some people believe that what I and others like me have to say about the state of the ISU program is "within their control" ........ is a problem.

We've sold out what, 3 games in the past 8 years? I highly doubt it.
