Where was Watson ?

Kunc came back. Watson was originally playing King's minutes. When King became eligible Kunc got hurt right away so Watson kept getting minutes, but he doesn't provide the offensive upside or experience that the other two have yet.

Yep, he got some incredibly valuable experience (and made the best of his minutes), but it's going to be tough seeing too many minutes behind Kunc and King unless there is foul trouble.

I was hoping Watson could reinvent himself as a lockdown perimeter defender with adequate scoring. That way, he could spell Gabe/Grill/Holmes for 5-10 minutes/game and absorb some of their fouls. The talent is there, but is just raw.

I'll get grilled for this, but I like the energy from Watson and Ward better than Kunc and Jones. Better defensively and rebounding. Kunc is a better shooter when he's right, but the way he's playing now, it's probably a wash offensively too.

That said, TJ is the man and knows far more about basketball than me.

Kunc is still getting back into rhythm. I like Watson and Ward, but there is no universe in which either are better than Kunc in offense, defense or rebounding.

I like both Watson and Ward. Agree with another poster that Watson could be a really nice 3/4 junior/senior years if he works on his game.

But having the Watson/Ward combo in the game could be scary from a half court offense perspective. Kunc has not been sharp offensively since his return, but I think he'll find his shot.

I think Jones belongs on the Watson/Ward side of that ledger. Energy can be overrated if you're out of position or have to chase down your man because you went for the big steal in the back court. Kunc makes the smart play, plays sound team defense and doesn't get rattled. We need his calmness more than another guy with energy out there. We would have probably won the Tech game with Kunc in there. I do like his game paired with Tre King's energy, though.
