Where was Diallo?

Say what you want about UK but Coach Cal plays his Freshman even if they are raw (Skal is the obvious example) and will take lumps as they grow.

The best part of the LSU/UK game was watching Coach Cal on the sideline "not communicating" with guys in the huddle and on the bench. He would try to yell at them and explain something and they were either not listening or looking like they had no idea what he was saying. It is fun when UK has a bad year.

Self told him what he tells every incoming player which is that he is going to have to earn minutes to play and that there are guys in the rotation with a lot of experience that you will have to earn those minutes over. And Self has always backed that up with who he gives playing time to.

Yes, the Iowa State Staff told Diallo the same thing.

Just hope Diallo is happy riding the bench on his way to becoming the one and done star everybody was telling him was.

This is true. He was always an effort, rebounder and shot blocker with limited offensive game. If he would have come to ISU he'd be a backup for ~13 minutes for McKay. He is still on the NBA radar as Noel type player who in 3 years will be a starting C. I have a hard time believing he could provide what Lucas Traylor does as just a shot blocker rebounder though and expect we'll see more of him as the season progresses. I'm more curious if the lack of playing time will start to hurt Self's recruiting. This will be the 4th highly rated post that is sitting behind lesser prospects. C Alexander, Oubre (early in the year), now Diallo and Bragg. One and dones want to be top 10 picks and to get there they want to get recognition during thier one season. Because all he has as other options are OTHER FRESHMEN! Just a reminder that Cal had more Top 10 ranked recruits that failed to be a lottery pick on last year's team (Harrison twins, Dakari Johnson and Alex Poythress) than Self has had in 12 seasons at Kansas (Selby, Alexander).

.... And I would be fine if KU never landed a One and Done prospect ever again and so would Self I'd bet....

Please, we understand you're here to brag up KU BB, but please don't bring this crap unless we have a quote from Mr Bill himself..... our staff would love to show that to all future McD AAs.

I find the whole OAD topic to be exhausting and annoying and I think it takes away from the sport as a whole. Monday's KU-OU game was one of the best regular season games played in years. KU played primarily 1 soph, 4 juniors and 3 seniors. Oklahoma played primarily 1 soph, 1 junior and 4 seniors. Probably not a coincidence.

These are the same brainiacs who insisted Cooke was better than Thomas in every aspect, and also claim "want" based only on a one minute mix tape video..

And then there was the matter of him shooting a very high 3-pt% at the college level, as well as making the All-Freshmen team in the Pac10.

It's still too early in the season and his recovery to draw any conclusions at this point, either way. I doubt anyone is going to say that his surgeries and having to sit out and not being able to work on his game hasn't affected his performance up to this point.

If you have watched him play you know why he doesn't get a ton of minutes. He is still a high draft pick because of potential which he has a lot of. He has a lot to learn though and a lot of stuff to work on. Just like Skal at Kentucky. I think too many times people expect every high ranked prospect to be great right away.
To me Cheik abnd Skal should go pro now because they are not bringing very much to the college table.

Former Top 20 recruit Marcus Lee (a junior now because he barely played his first two years) started for Kentucky @LSU fouled out after having played a total of FIVE MINUTES. that's not a scrub coming off the bench for the purpose of fouling. That's a Top 20 recruit in his junior year who started the game. Thank goodness he has the superior development skills of John Calipari working with him. And he played next to a fellow Top 10 recruit, now in his senior season at Kentucky since he hasn't "developed" to be any better than he was his freshman year.

Good thing Cal doesn't like going after the 'one and done' players, ala Mr Bill.

Was told Self recruited Diallo with idea that he would be "one and done" to get him there from Day 1, from a darn reliable source. Now whether he leaves on potential or reconsiders that, is another thing.

OAD has nothing to do with where you go to school in 99% of the cases.

Please link the peer-reviewed study supporting that statement, El Tuco.

The list of teams that have had a OAD player drafted in the first round in the last five years:

Kentucky
Duke
Ohio State
Arizona
Texas
Kansas
UNLV
UCLA
Syracuse
Indiana
Pitt
Florida
UConn
St John's
Washington

You don't have to go to Kentucky/Duke/Kansas to be "developed" into a OAD caliber player. They had what the NBA was looking for before they ever stepped foot on a campus.

All top 25 recruits are constantly evaluated on the AAU circuit for years so where they go is almost irrelevant unless they completely bust against the competition at the next level or shine at the highest level. They biggest reason these guys choose the Duke, UKs and KUs of the world are for a few reasons.
1. Always showcased with multiple NBA scouts present to watch them.
2. Largest fanbases that carry over to the next level. (Disputable though as teams with less talent and success will have a more lasting memory with their respected fan base)
3. Freshmen will always play against top talent in practice while also play alongside top talent elevating their game all year long.
4. And my opinion, most important. They want to win and these teams like it or not win the most games overall.

There is downsides as well, including **** poor playing time in actual games which I think is more important than many points above. But these guys don't have the mentality coming in that they will ride pine.
