Ok, I messed up. He is not running the scout team this year. He did last season. Doesn't change his ability to throw passes downfield.

Really? Maybe Park didn’t implement the game plan with his poor play. I’m pretty sure Manning didn’t call for Park to throw 3 atrocious interceptions that were just awful passes. And I am pretty sure that Manning didn’t tell Park to overthrow receivers. And on the read option plays, was Manning telling Park to make the wrong reads?
Manning might have had a pretty simple game plan and Park wasn’t implementing it. Which explains the sideline arguments. And perhaps it is the mental aspect that Jacob needs to get healed.

Lol, Park didn't go rouge and instead of handing it off to DM, called 50 passes, most of them being vertical.
I think you are on the right track with thought. I think CMC gave Park some time off to make a decison to see if he can get his head right and follow the coaches plan not question it.
I don't know what really happened with Park but if it required you to take a personal medical leave in the middle of the season, I wouldn't rush him back the following week.

You're right about that. The plan was to pass the ball. But, I'm betting they have discussed throwing the ball away when there is nothing there. Reminded him after the 1st int and again after the second. After doing it a third time it was pretty obvious CMC needed to try another way to through to JP.
Kempt was given a limited playbook. When every play called is only a main target and one check down, it's a lot easier to know where to go as opposed to when you have one to two main target and every eligible receiver as a check down.
I'm confused. People have bashed Park here both because he doesn't stay in the pocket enough but also bashed him because because he does stay in it too much. They've bashed him because he runs too much and then bashed him because he's not elusive enough. They've bashed him for throwing the ball out of bounds when there's not an open man then bashed him for forcing the ball when there's no open man. I'm confused how one person is doing all of these polar opposite things at the same time.
Could you imagine if jsb and clonedude dated each other? That would be amazing!
I must be in the minority when I say I loved the simplified gameplan we had. Kempt for the most part just had to make calm decisions and easy throws to big playmakers, then let the monsters go to work, on top of otherwise playing a slower, more ball-control-oriented game. I am 100% okay with that mentality, and the results didn't lie.
I really wonder how Park would perform in the exact same strategy.

I simplified game plan at this point in the season is great. Now we should be able to add something new each week. Normally towards the end of the season it becomes harder to add a new wrinkle to a set. Sometimes, it doesn't take a lot of plays to make an offense productive if you can become really good at it. ie Troy Davis, Dwayne Crutchfield, David Montgomery add in the advantages we have at receivers and we can keep the defense from loading the box or dropping 8 in coverage. We should be so excited. This team is gelling and our offense is going to explode on people.

But people want the game to be what it was in the 80s and it's just not anymore. A coordinator can get nine different angles of any given play for any given team these days. Coordinators are smarter, technology is light years better, players are bigger, stronger and faster. Even a team as ****** as Kansas is going to be looking to jump those screens Saturday. This isn't a video game. You can't go to the same well multiple times a game, several games in a row and expect to be successful. Kansas will play some zone coverage, something Kempt didn't see at all against Oklahoma. It's just how it is. Can he be successful? Maybe. I hope so, especially if he ends up being the guy long term this season. But to think you can go for more than one, maybe two weeks on a simple game plan with no more than two or three passing options in a play and keep winning, you're fooling yourself.

I didn't say KEEP it as is. Build off of it week by week. The technology works on both sides of the ball. Continuing to excecute and expose the other teams weaknesses (going at #7 from OU) will have a greater impact then just having alot of plays. If we find something thats works against another team run it till they prove the can stop it,(Kansas did this to us when they ran a pitch to June Henly on basically every play one year) cause they have to make adjustments to do so, that opens up other plays to be successful. I think we ran a very simple offense because there was uncertainty on how Kyle would preform. From what he showed, I expect us to expand on plays and keep the defense thinking they know whats coming. With Kansas and Texas Tech at the bottom of the conference in pass defense, I think our coaches will find ways to expand the passing offense.
