When will Clones be ranked?

I'm really tempering my expectations for next year in the interest of preserving my sanity.

This might be the smart thing to do early on considering how the team has played in the non-conference portion of the schedule.

I'm not counting next year's team out yet. I think they will struggle early but will come on strong at the end of the year as the freshmen and redshirt freshmen gain more experience and confidence. Not saying they will be ranked but I'm also not saying it isn't possible. After that, I think the 2014-2015 team could have a consistent ranking.

I think people are giving up on next year way too soon. I think we will have an inside defensive presence like we don't have this year and that will make a huge impact. I think Morris could be very serviceable by conference season. I also think the combination of SDW, Thomas, and Long can make up for TM and WC, at least in scoring. Maybe Hogue replaces Babb from a defensive standpoint. The problem is you may lose some offense with him. So, how does this all balance out? IMO, trading Babb for someone who influences shots inside is a good deal. I said it before: Babb is very good but if you play bad team defense, that effort is wasted like it was against KU and like it was at other times. BUT if Ejim or Thomas or SDW turn out to be a good perimeter defender, then we all of a sudden have that paired with someone inside. Now we have rebounding. I think Niang has to pick up a little slack here.

I truly believe this year's team is top 25 caliber. A lot of people say that we're aren't mentally tough because of how some games have ended, but I just don't see it that way. We have had the same amount of hard luck this year that some teams have in 5 years together. Yes there were things in all the games that we could have done differently to win, but some extraordinary things had to happen for those wins to slip away.

Answer: When Iowa State finds ways to win the close games, rather than finding ways to lose them.

I think next year is possible because I think Fred still has some tricks up his sleeve for recruiting.

I can all but guarantee you 2015 is the biggest year for me. The Cubs will win the world series and the Cyclones will be an elite 8 team.

Now we know you're insane.

Off topic---We might be decent next year. Pick us 8th and we'll make the dance for sure. We're going to miss Lucious most next year, always hard to replace the PG with youth. Having Bubu back will help but he's not near what Lucious is and is way hesistant to put the ball up from outside.

On topic---We could be consisten in 14-15 but Niang's senior year 15-16 we will be outrageous. Niang, MT, MM, CC, Vaughn, SDW, Naz. We get one decent 6'9" plus guy and look out.

I think Babb will be missed more than most people think. I just hope even without a lockdown guy who can effectively guard 2-4, the team as a whole can play better team defense.

Yes, I know Babb has guarded the 1, but I don't think it is his forte.

Ya, I actually think we could be just as good next year. Not saying we will be, but I think we could be. Ejim will be even better, and he is already a double double machine. Niang will no longer be a Freshman and will be very good as well. We have the best shooter in the class in Matt Thomas coming in. SDW was a top 125 guard with a year under his belt lifting, and can shoot the rock and create his own too.

Our Bigs should actually be an upgrade. Percy has a year to grow (no more sophmore slump) Armadi can alter shots underneath. Edozie (sp?) is a question mark but hopefully he contributes, and I already touched on Niang who only has another year to grow and get better. Ejim plays bigger than his size.

Our 1-3:
I honestly think Hogue can replace a lot of WC's production. Already touched on Matty Ice, Man Man will be young, but I think by conference play, he will be a solid contributor (again a top 100 recurit). SDW is a top 125 recruit with offers from Michigan, Baylor, and Indiana (I think he'll surprise some people) Bubu will have more time to get back into the flow of things. Oroko is a huge body for a 3, and I think can be a lockdown defender like Babb.

I'm sure I forgot some people, but I think Fred will struggle with them early, but have them playing as a team late, and still get to the tourney.

Now 2014.....Add Vaughn, and we could have a starting 5 that were all top 125 recruits, (Man Man, Iceman, SDW, Vaughn, and Niang) and be something really special. One of those would likely be the first off the bench, and have a big guy starting in his place, I just want to show the potential talent we could have.

Edit: Sorry for the novel. I got excited.

Think the starting lineup is quite good. The bench is pretty shaky. My guess is NIT, possibly NCAA with some luck for next year.

I am confident that if that is what Fred needs him to do, he will do it with confidence. I don't think Bubu is all anything, but I am not concerned about the point next year. I think between the players there is a good mix of talent, athleticism and experience.

Have we ever been consistently ranked? (not including Tinsley years)

One of Tim Floyd's 96 or 97 squads was in the rankings for several weeks, even cracking into the top 5 IIRC (definitely top 10).

To answer the OP's question: who gives a ****.

Are you saying you don't care about being ranked? If you're in the top 25, it usually means you're winning a lot of games and you get more attention than teams that aren't. That can only help with recruiting.

Sorry but that's just a dumb assertion.

Never? A racist being shot will never bother me. Way to stay on topic.
i think a little over the top. I hate that people think that way but nobody should be oficially sanctioned for what they think in this country, much less "shot". And to suggest violence to two people suggesting/threatening violence is also stupid. We have no place for that in civil discourse. They should be arrested and expelled for their threats and shunned for their racism but suggesting and condoning violence against them isnt cool.

I think people that think we will be just as good next year are underestimating just how good are Seniors are. One is the possibly the best shooter in ISU history and another is one of the best defenders in ISU history, and they are far from one trick ponies. Oh yeah, and a couple of the other seniors will probably be playing professionally somewhere next year too. Our record hasn't really shown how good this team is.

I am very excited for the future but for next year I'm just going into the season with an open mind.

Heard this same exact thing last year. Maybe people are underestimating how good the talent is coming in and how big it will be having Ejim and Niang come back. Plus there is a chance SDW or Naz Long step up being a year more mature.

Sure did, but I wasn't part of it. The new players coming into this season were proven Division 1 players. That is a lot different than what is coming in next year and we are losing much more.

But, like I said, I'm going into next season with an open mind and no particular expectations. Doubting Fred Hoiberg is just plain stupid.

(Well if by some miracle we win every game in the NCAA tournament we'll be Number1 or if we lose that game we'll be #2.... :P Maybe the NCAA MBB universe will be kind and decides. Well ISU lost to the refs against Iowa, OSU, and Kansas now the refs are going to be on ISU's side for three games.) Seriously though we could be ranked if we won the rest of our regular season games and win the Big12 tournament. But it would probably be #25.

Fair enough. I could be a little too optimistic about next year. I just really like the sound of some of the guys we have coming in plus more Ejim and Niang.
