Whats your major, first job ect.

BS ME, December 1993.

Took my engineering degree and went into sales. Work for a company that sells industrial automation equipment. I still remember my advisor in college saying "You can use your engineering degree and pursue a career in sales. You will probably make the most money that way, but you won't be a REAL engineer". I knew right then and there that is what I wanted to do. Just no desire to sit behind a desk all day or design things.

Still with the same company 14 years later and it has been great. I work from home, company car (free gas!), pension plan, 401k etc. No complaints and HOPING to retire early as long as my world doesn't collapse around me!

CprE... it's not all about the money though... I turned down 60k for 47... I'd rather do something that I'll somewhat enjoy for 8 hours a day than something that will keep me looking at the clock.

Did five years active duty in the Marine Corps (year of schooling for adv. flight controls) got out and made 50,000 working for Moog. Was working with engineers making more money all day. Now finishing my Mech engineer Deg. at ISU. Going back to Moog.

Finance major, first job out of college(still in it) working as a loan officer for Wells Fargo, base is 27k with exponential commission possiblity. The base hasnt changed in 3 years (part of 06,all of 07,beginning of 08) , but I am guessing that is because of the commission aspect, either way you cant beat getting 20 days of paid time off right out of college.

marketing fall 07, just started this week at wells fargo as a loan officer as well.

In school for Const. Engr. 1st summer made $18/hour doing labor for heavy highway contractor in Iowa. 2nd summer made $26/hour doing Geopiers for the same company, people should know who it is now. This past fall/summer I did a coop with Weitz in Bethesda MD/DC area on a 200 million dollar proj. and that paid decent, but not enough for cost of living out there! One of the top 4 most expensive places to live in the nation. rent was 960 for single bedroom, 150 cable phone net, and 50 for utilties. It kicked my butt, but the experience was money.

When in college the experience is worth the lack of $! I worked for the Chicago Board of Trade during a summer for around $7/hr. But, everyone I have ever interviewed with asks me about it to this day. Not many people I have been up against have worked on the floor of the CBOT.

No doubt about it Dave. Loved every minute in the Corps. Made great men out of many people.

edit. while making little money while not in theater...

I graduated in spring of 97 with a degree in Industrial Ed and Technology with and ephasis in Manufacturing. (read as a Manufacturing Engineer without all the math)

My first Job was working for a sheetmetal shop in Southern California for arouund 35K a year. Mostly as an NC Programmer and manufacturing planner. It was a nice place to work until the founder sold it to a small corperation, and then things went to hell in a handbasket after 9/11, since most of our work was aerospace. (about 98%)

I currently work at Northrop Grumman on the F-35 Lightning II program and pulled in around 90K in 2007. Great company to work for .

(on a seperate note my utmost respect to those of you who have served in the armed forces. My father was 30 year career officer in the Army Corp of Engineers, and I grew up on bases around the world. I just want to say "Thanks" for the effort and commitment.)

Aug 01 in Meteorology. Spent the next 4 months looking for a job in TV. I decided I would rather teach and coach so I went back to ISU and took classes to get certified. Now I teach MS and HS math and coach basketball and track. Love every minute of the coaching and most every minute of the teaching. Them money is not great but you can live off of it (especially before I was married). The benefits are pretty good.

Industrial Administration 1975, accounting option, went to work for $12,300 in Chicago. At the time it was a very good starting pay.

Three years later we were back in Iowa making around $30K. I have been a serial entreprennuer since 1981 and I can not complain about much financially.

When are you going to graduate bjwitt? In other posts, you put off an air that you're around 28 instead of 20. Just wondering.

I am 19 and Ill graduate in probably 2011 as I am minoring in Political Science. I dont know what post I put that I was 28 but it must have been a typo.
