What's your Beef?

Steve Deace, perceived by ISU fans to be their leader, nailed it last month when he said that ISU fans need to quit their complaining and support their team. Case in point, I got dragged to Merle Hay Mall last Saturday and while sitting in the playland watching my son, I made an effort to see how many people walking by me were wearing either Iowa or Iowa State gear and in one hour, I saw one ISU shirt and that was worn by a Nigeran woman, compare that to being in Omaha on the 4th of July and Husker gear was everywhere.

Also if you knew anything about ISU, you would know that Steve Deace would never be perceived as a leader to the ISU fan base. He is a true blue Michigan fan and just gives ISU equal time when he had a show. And as far as not seeing ISU fans at Merle Hay Mall that makes me happy. If you know anything at all about Des Moines Merle Hay Mall is generally a pretty different crowd which would explain why you were there while your wife was picking up her low rider pants and getting her weave done.

Wow, i'm impressed, you go off on me after saying that i'm neither an Iowa or Iowa State fan (I could care less about either school), but yet cann't defend a single piece of my argument.

Real nice, all you did was further reinforce the inferiority complex that Iowa State fans come acrossed as having.

What an idiot? I bet you are just chuckling telling your other Squawkeye buddies at work how funny you think you are with your clever wit on the ISU message board. Boy did you burn us, because you can't get more credible than a quote of Steve Deace and using big names like "whiner." Because we all know that fans of other teams in this state never whine. No one from EIU would say anything like "If Drew Tate would have played the whole game last year it would have been 56-3 Iowa" or "If ISU didn't let convicts like Jason Berryman play football than they wouldn't have had a chance" or my favorite "ISU won't punish it's players if they are good enough. We did what we needed to with Pierre (after his third offense)." Go back to talking about your national championship hopes in the little time that they are still possible again this year.

I fly the American Flag... Sorry it means a little more to me than the ISU flag...

That's not was being said on ISU message boards when KXNO announced it's schedule changes. All I read and heard was that Iowa State fans were losing one of their own in Steve Deace because after all he gave ISU sports the time of day on his show and was being replaced by the biggest Hawk around in Jon Miller and perceived Iowa State haters in Marty & Miller.

The fact that Jon Miller is bending over backwards to please Iowa State fans is downright funny.

Do me a favor and leave my family out of this.

If you dont care about either team, then why are you on our message on a weekday morning? I can understand a saturday night but most of us bigboys are at work by 6:30 on a thursday. Unless you (like me) are posting from work, meaning you really do care.

Just an observation

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(garn91 @ 07-06-06 7:51 am) [post=6487]Quoted post[/post]</div><div class='quotemain'> I've been lurking on this message board and other Iowa State message boards for awhile and have come to a conclusion:

Iowa State fans are nothing but a bunch of whiners.

From the Big 12 TV package to the changes at Clear Channel Des Moines to whining on this board about not being able to find Cyclone gear in KC, whining about how anti ISU the DSM Register is, and now this.

I'm neither an Iowa or Iowa State fan and IMO, you want to know why Iowa State sports isn't taken seriously in this state? It's your non stop whining.

Hey garntwit.....What did you do, hop on your bosses computer on your break from flippin burgers, or do you get free access now that you have eclipsed your 15th yr working for Burger King as manager of the grill.

In all of your infinite travels, did you spend one minute at Pukeyereport.com after they won the Little 10 tourny???????? Whining because Alfraud was the best thing since the invention of the wheel and if the Bowlsby didn't take care of him, Indiana was going to steal him away???????? Did you spend another minute after the Northwestern State (14 seed) win over the overated #3 seeded EIU when the whiners once again showed up to complain that they now couldn't get rid of the red headed stepchild Alfraud because noone wants a worthless coach and their only way out was to sneak antifreeze into his orange juice slushy????? Better yet, get with any Pukeye after we light them up this Fall at the Kinnick toilet bowl on September 16th. Dairy Farmers love EIU cause they eat a lot of cheese with their WHINE. EIU fans whine more in one hour than ISU fans to in a whole season....but then again, they have such a lopsided view of themselves that they can't help but become dissapointed when they don't meet their own expectations.

Now, go take a shower and get all that burger grease off your head cause you obviously are affected by the lack of circulation to that gap between your ears.......

Now to the intelligent Cyclone fans........Another problem with the marketing side of ISU caps, cups, chairs, memorabilia, etc is the fact that the ISU expects way too much royalty fees on any merchandise with the ISU logo on it. EIU and UNI expect next to nothing compared to ISU and so it is more lucrative for a retailer to sell their products and make a little money. I have a guy who worked for me a year back that built a machine to turn thrown away bowling pins into cool basketball and football decorations that he put logo's on from all sorts of colleges, but couldn't do it for ISU because they wanted more in royalty fees then he was selling the other university versions for, which included that university's royalty fees, manufacturing fees, and his profit. I have been told after getting on stores that sell more Pukeye stuff than Cyclone that they are in the same boat........thats terrible!!!! We as Cyclone fans need to start writing checks to the university so they don't have to rely on royalty fees for a majority of their budget so they can thus drop the royalty fees, making it more profitable for a company to make ISU branded products and getting them out on an equal basis to the Community college in Eastern Iowa.

I have the American flag hanging out in front of my garage and have Cyclone flags and posters in my garage and of course my red S10ZR2 has ISU plates and about 8 stickers representing the best University in the state of Iowa. That would be the Cyclones for less fortunates like garntwit......

My basement is actually painted red and we are putting down hard wood basketball floors with free throw line and the new logo like I actually moved part of the ISU basketball court into my house.. Should look sweet when I am done.. I have my Dwayne Crutchfield game worn jersey mounted (not torn and probably the only one not Torn) on the wall. That makes up for the outside with no cyclone gear..

That sounds sweet. when me and my wife got married we made a deal. I would let her do whatever she wanted to in every room in the house except the basement, the basement is my room. Now I have 2 couches, a lazy-boy recliner, a 56" plasma screen TV, and my prized possessin... a Johnny Orr autographed basketball with a fine hand crafted mahogany case. And their are flowers and butterflies in the rest of the house. Guess where most of my time is spent.

I can't wait to fix up my basement and proudly display my Cyclone memorabilia, including my Fred Hoiberg autographed basketball when he was playing for the Timberwolves...although I would have liked to have gotten it under different circumstances..... I got it at a benefit for my then 15 yr old cousin who had Wilm's Tumour and died this year on May 20 at the young age of 16.

I thought it said a lot for someone to ask him to sign a ball for a fan and told him they were selling it at a benefit for her. He of course did it right away. That's when you get the true Cyclone pride. Plus, it's good to see the ball to remind me that sports is not really that important in the big scheme of life.

Although she would approve of me making fun of Squawk fans.
RIP Heidi
