What would ISU do with a decent kicker?

When Miller and Deace were doing sports radio, they took a 5 year stretch and flip flopped the kickers. During that time Iowa was winning close games and ISU was losing close games. All of them game down to how the kicker performed. I don't recall the exact numbers, but Nate Kaeding at ISU and not Iowa during that time completely changed how the seasons went.

Netten is actually a pretty darn good kicker at the college level. He just picked a bad one to miss against Toledo.

We would have gone 4-8 last year, scored 10 more points total on the season, averaged 25.83 points per game which would have been good for 9th highest scoring offense out of 10 Big 12 teams.

So in other words, we still would suck.

I think that goes right along with the post about not having CMC. If that team avoided the Toledo loss and went 4-8 with a roster that looked like it could continue to make progress next season, do you think Paul would have been fired? I still would have been in favor of the firing, but I don't think it would have happened.

In hindsight, I think he still would have been fired with a win over Toledo.

She's our next QB

On the kicker subject - Would be awesome to see ISU get this kid. Go get him coach.

Look at those pointy elbows! 3/10 tops.

... On a more practical note, with her slow release and our offensive line, the results wouldn't be pretty.

It would have still happened if we keep the horrifying meltdown at KSU

FYI, ISU was 32nd in Kick Return Defense last year with an average opponents's kick return of 19.43 yards (2nd in the Big 12 behind KSU). So even though we don't get many touchbacks, we're doing a good job preventing the return team from getting big returns. For FG kicking, Cole Netten was 64th in FG goal percentage at 73.7%. The average for all of FBS is 74.9% and he's well within 1 standard deviation of the mean (SD = 9.4%). He's at the 47th percentile.

So depending on your definition of "a decent kicker," ISU did have a decent kicking game last year.

beat Toledo and KSU go to a bowl on five wins. Low level bowl is sixth win. In that scenario there is no way JP lets Paul go.
The scenario was beating Toledo. adding 2 wins to that scenario is completely different

I figure the OP really meant a super human (probably part space alien) who hits 100% of all kicks regardless of weather or game situation or distance. And probably should hit kickoffs completely out of the stadium and execute 100% of onside kicks to perfection. Also be able to throw himself a TD pass in a fake situation.

Just sayin'.

Make that kick vs Toledo and this team prob finishes 5-7 at worst..

Having an AA kicker can change any game..kickoffs ..,etc..having a top kicker u can kick 47-50 yd fgs with ease..makes a big diff IMO
