What would cause TJ to move?

Why isn't Michigan just hiring the next member of the Fab 5? They pretty much have 4 more coaches in waiting!
Wait a min....I thought the Fab 5 was erased from history. Packed away by......

It's not a surprise his name is going to come up. Just like Campbell.

If Pollard sticks around, TJ will stick around.

This is typical delusion based on big brand schools that have over-inflated views of themselves.

Its the same $hit in football with the likes of Nebraska.

If Michigan were a top destination they would not have hired a first time coach in Howard.

So long as Jamie keeps writing checks and we’re in reasonable position to succeed with NIL I don’t see him leaving. Especially not for a school like Michigan.

I feel this way about Campbell but even more so with TJ - he’s more interested in building a top program here than he is going to a bigger school with deeper pockets.
So I do agree that TJ isn’t going to Michigan but not for alot of the reasons you named.

Howard was hired due to his ties to the school and for years was viewed as a sort of bench player/coach for Miami. He brought a lot of immediate credibility to the program and got a couple great recruiting classes but simply isn’t a god developmental coach. His best seasons were with beliens guys.

Michigan has a major issue with the admissions side for basketball that I don’t think too many coaches would want to venture into. The also simple fact is that Michigan is dominated by football so that the basketball team is an extreme second fiddle.

Michigan doesn’t really fire basketball coaches this quickly but it’s pretty obv that Howard is in way over his head and the off court incidents give the alums a lot of ammo to push Howard out.

I don’t think TJ would want to walk into that situation especially with how well ISU is rolling along.

I have zero concerns of TJ going to Michigan but let’s be honest the Michigan job should be one of the most coveted jobs in college basketball. Michigan has plenty of in state talent. Chicago also isn’t that far away. Also a lot of financial support there.

Big $$$$$$$$$$

Michigan pays Howard $3.2 million compared to TJ at $2.5 million this year which increases to $3 million in July. We can easily hang with them.

Plus, Howard was national coach of the year, had a #1 seed and an Elite 8 and Sweet 16 appearance in the last 3 years. And they might fire him this year. Much more stability in Ames than Ann Arbor.

I would be surprised if he is fired. He might step down under the psudo guise of health but I don’t think he gets fired. Michigan doesn’t really fire basketball coaches that fast unless it’s a scandal.

Amaker was kept for 6/7 seasons and he never even made the tournament

Argh! Michigan speculation here. Another reason to hate the B1G and SEC. They probably think they can just snap their fingers and get whatever coach they want. And they will have the money to back it up for many.

Juwan Howard – Michigan

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
Season Record: 7-11
Overall Record: 86-59
The Juwan Howard era at Michigan has plummeted downhill since the team’s 23-5 season in 2020-21, and with multiple controversies surrounding the program and their head coach, it might already be time to pull the plug and start looking elsewhere for a new head man.
Administration needs to focus on landing an experienced coach and a strong recruiter, and if they can convince T.J. Otzelberger to leave Iowa State and the Big 12 they will be in a great position to return to prominence quickly.
Otzelberger has deep connections in the Midwest, has a strong reputation as a lead recruiter, and is a winning coach from his time at UNLV and now with the Cyclones in the loaded Big 12.
Replacement: T.J. Otzelberger (Iowa State)

You're quoting a article that's six week old and from USA Today.

Trying to think of a worse source for sports news and I guess the NY Post doesn't cover much ISU related news.

This is just the same lazy sports journalism we see over and over. Been happening with CMC for years. General formula, big brand school has an opening, lazy reporter finds a list of 5-8 coaches having success at non blue blood schools and writes an article naming them top candidates. Zero research, zero sources, just nonsensical click bait.

TJ isn't going anywhere. He doesn't have Fred's weird NBA fetish. He is going to be here as long as ISU wants him.
lol, yeah wanting to coach in the nba is def a weird fetish. College basketball is so so much bigger.

TJ isn’t going anywhere, pay increases and some nil resources and it’s all good. Just go buy more pizza!
