What will ISU be ranked?

Looks like Memphis was massively penalized, and in some cases completely dropped out of the top 25, for losing to Iowa State.

They must be basing that off of how good Iowa State was last year, and that is completely irrelevant now that you can pick up transfers and they don’t have to sit out.
They were destroyed by 29 points. So no problem dropping them out.

Edit: Don't know where I got 29 points. Out of nowhere obviously. 19 is right.

Every week in 2021-22, I will hand out awards for the week that just unfolded in college basketball and unveil a new top 25:

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana. He hit 18-of-24 field goals with 43 points in a 90-79 win over Marshall, the first Hoosier since 1994 to score 40+ in a game.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Iowa State. The Cyclones won two games last season, beating ranked foes Xavier and Memphis to win the NIT tip-off event.

COACH OF THE WEEK: Cliff Ellis, Coastal Carolina. He earned his 800th career victory.

DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Paolo Banchero, Duke. He scored 21 points in a win over Gonzaga.

SHOCK OF THE WEEK: Dayton over Kansas. The Flyers were a 16-point underdog and trailed by 15 in the first half before winning 74-73.

VITALE'S TOP 25:

1. Duke
2. Purdue
3. Gonzaga
4. Baylor
5. Texas
6. UCLA
7. Kansas
8. Villanova
9. Arkansas
10. Kentucky
11. Arizona
12. BYU
13. Florida
14. Indiana
15. Michigan
16. Houston
17. Alabama
18. UConn
19. USC
20. Tennessee
21. Auburn
22. Illinois
23. Iowa State
24. St. Bonaventure
25. Ohio State

I may be in the minority here, and frankly I don’t care. I’ve always been a **** Vitale fan!

Bozich (of course) has Memphis still on his ballot (and references loss by 19 to ISU) and ISU is nowhere to be found.

Absolutely par for the course for Bozich. He is always one of the voters who votes ISU lower than almost every other voter.

We’ll be ranked and it’s not like it matters much where, but I do feel like voters will try to discredit what we did and put too much credit into Xavier being short handed and Memphis possibly just being overrated rather than realizing that those wins were more about ISU than them.
We were shorthanded too. I think Javan Johnson (9 pts and 4 reb avg last year) and Xavier Foster would both have gotten significant minutes if not be in the starting lineup. Do we have 13 scholly players (11?)?

I'd like to think they would be #15, but expect they crack the top 20.

Just a heads up, there are some ticket deals happening today for Cyber Monday and also some 4-pack deals.

Bought tickets to take the family to the Jan 1 game against Baylor. 4 for $60 including fees... not bad at all.

Some voters will consider it "bad loss to a 'bad' team" and drop Memphis without elevating ISU and ignore the body of work, including beating #25 Xavier ... But Bozich didn't have Xavier ranked last week (He had Memphis at #11 ... also had Purdue #1 (only voter to do so) and Gonzaga #4 (the lowest of any voter.)

He is always a wild card (not necessarily a bad thing, screw group-think) but he has some really strong biases that come through consistently from year to year; devaluing ISU is one of them.

Big time B1G bias. Why is Wisconsin ranked ahead of us? Why is Illinois still ranked? Passing eye test?
The have the b1g/acc challenge this week, they had to inflate b1g ratings for tv bc the acc is so awful this year. Ohio st maintained their ranking bc they play Duke.

Personally I'd like to start in the 20-25 rankings and work our way up. I think it gives the team more incentive when you feel you're better than your ranking.

Looks like we didn't even receive any votes in the new AP poll.... good, keep these guys with a chip on their shoulder.

No way that's fully updated. Looks like they did a very partial job of it.

Looks like we didn't even receive any votes in the new AP poll? Doesn't make sense because of the Chris Murray article, maybe they incorrectly put Iowa instead?

That’s not updated. Still has Memphis 9 and Xavier 25

Yeah, I just edited my original. They had to have some incorrect entries here.

Drake recieved 3 votes at 3-3 haha

Yeah, those votes would seem legit now.
They updated records and next games, but we know that Gonzaga and UCLA will drop a little after their losses.
Since Duke beat Gonzaga, you just know they show up in the top 3.
But someone changed the updated date to today, so it's really easy to throw folks off with that. It's still an hour or so too early for the real results.
