Dan McCarney's South Florida team gets another upset, knocks Auburn from rankings... and I suppose nobody's surprised about this?
It is not his team, he's a defensive coordinator.
Doesn't mean he played no part in it - just don't make it seem like he won the game for 'em.
I'm surprised they beat Auburn, but I'm not surprised that USF is having success. They were a bowl team last year and could make some waves in the Big East this year. Having Mac as an assistant coach obviously won't make or break them, but it probably doesn't hurt. He's a great motivator as its often said, so thats got to be helpful to a team on the brink of becoming a contender in a conference that is improving every year.

Actually Mac is Defensive Line Coach and Asst Head Coach not D coordinator.
And come on people Chizik has had this team for less than year, had to recruit on the fly and has only a short time with these players to get to know them and implement his system. This basically still macs team. Give chizik some time.
You're jerking yourself around if you think Wally Burnham doesn't have DM input on nearly every defensive scheme they run. Too much experience and success (Iowa, Wisconsin, Iowa State). I'm sure if Wally wasn't around in the spring then DM could have had his job.
)Yes, Mac is the D line coach and helping with special teams, caught a view of him on TV late last night firing up their guys, one funny thing from their game is their kicking game is horrible like ours, the kid missed a couple short Shaggy kicks, one thing South Florida did find a way to overcome it and win.
Anyways who freaking cares. Mac is gone he's not coming back. Chizik is the coach and we should be looking towards the future of this team.

I don't know sounds like Wally is a pretty good D. Coordinator...and Mac is just a D-line coach. don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion.
When USF head coach Jim Leavitt announced the addition of Wally Burnham to the USF staff in March 2000, he drew an analogy to a "recruiting coup."
Why not? After all, Burnham has an abundance of big-time college coaching experience, including nine years with Bobby Bowden at Florida State and five years as an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at South Carolina. Furthermore, Burnham has blazed the recruiting trails throughout Florida and beyond during his coaching career. In all, Burnham brings 38 years of coaching experience (including 34 at the college or pro level) to the table.
Now, after six seasons in a key role building a powerful USF defense, Burnham has been promoted to assistant head coach and also becomes the sole defensive coordinator after four years as co-coordinator.
Burnham has done plenty to prove Leavitt’s decision to hire him six years ago to be a very astute one. Although his role was coaching the defensive ends in 2000 before assuming a more prominent role as co-coordinator in 2001, Burnham’s imprint has been on the USF defense from the outset.
Since 2000, the USF defense has improved from 32nd among all I-AA programs nationally to 38th among I-A schools in 2001 and all the way to 17th in Division I-A in 2002, 2003 and once again in 2005. Also in 2002, the Bulls ranked number one in the nation in turnover margin thanks in large part to a ball-hawking defense that was also ranked seventh nationally against the run.
