What did McKay d this time?

It could be a combo of things, minor disciple, resting a nagging injury vs a bad team before a short turnaround vs a really tough road test, and that it would mean taking out one of three guys that have been red hot to put in a guy coming off a 0 pt 5 foul outing.

Accordion to this site - Jameel learned a lot from the players meeting...? Maybe? Wtf is going on? Prom gets ****** when asked why a, until three games ago, season starter doesn't even play. Listen Steve, you are coaching in the best conference in the ncaa now- you need to answer these questions.

He did answer the question. Obviously he stopped short of describing the specific attitude problems Jameel has exhibited. But we've all seen it ourselves. What more do you want Prohm to say? Honestly, to say more would be unprofessional and could impact the potential for Jameel to overcome this.

Prohm doesn't owe the media an explanation. His team, his decisions.

Why? How does it help the situation or team to expose all the dirty laundry. We all know Jameel has been an awful teammate this year and something needs to be done. Prohm is trying to get Jameel right by March. If not, he should be gone soon so he is not a distraction. Your "need to know" is pretty low on what I would expect coach Prohm to be concerned about right now.
Someone said that Prohm was getting agitated with the questions of why the reigning defensive player of the year didn't play tonight when he wasn't suspended. What's to hide? He didn't practice well, he has a sore knee, ... Coaches decision and no answer leads to Internet guessing and reporters wondering what is going on. People will want to know why he didn't play. What's so hard to understand about that.

Did Freddie get the best out of bdj? Did Freddie get the best out of Matt Thomas and Abdul Nader? Did the team play consistently hard for Freddie when they lost to South Carolina, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and UAB last year? Did Freddie's teams play hard when they ranked 71st, 72nd, and 133rd in defense the past 3 years?

How can you totally support Prohm on this when we've no idea what's even going on (knee acting up or disciplinary)?

Bottom line with McKay and the rest of the team: Prohm doesn't know how to get the best out of these guys. They don't consistently play hard for him. They did for Freddie. Texas is like a different team effort wise with Shaka.

The whole "head coach experience" part of the hiring process was total BS. Prohm's head coaching experience was limited and he inherited a great roster at Murray St. The guy's in way over his head.

Funny how he's always turning to TJ on the bench during critical parts of games. Guess TJ has HC abilities after all...

#1) SwirlyBird is an idiot.
#2) Prohm shouldn't sit one of our best players if he cannot comment on the situation. This guy is in way over his head.
#3) Leath needs to get involved soon... (if we want to see any kind of success in March.)
#4) Much needed W for Big 12 conference seedings.
You like to wear your butthurt on your sleeve don't you?

Always thought it was a coaches discretion on who played
Well yeah, but I can tell you this we definitely needed him tonight. So either it is one of those two or Prohm is a bad coach for not recognizing McKay could have helped us tonight.

This is how I'm approaching it. Clearly he has a serious attitude problem. I'd say its 50-50 at best that he gets himself right before the season ends.

It's unfortunate since his next basketball life is likely overseas, which means no one will ever know what happened to him after his time at ISU.

Just an odd dude it seems, and an odd group in general.

I'm glad Prohm didn't talk about it. I'm sure he wanted to keep the focus on the team and the win. I'm sure in the next day or two he'll have more to say.

ISU didn't need McKay tonight.

They needed basic defensive and rebounding fundamentals. They haven't had that for a long time and won't.

The guys that end up playing overseas do all right for themselves money-wise. Not a bad way to make a living

Why are you calling him freddie?

God damnit, we would have won in Mckay played.

AS a team, you never want to feel bad after a win, but for some reason this has been the case a lot this year at various times.

Prohm owes no one any explanation. It's his team. He is responsible for it, just like he is responsible for playing Cooke and Ashton at the same time, timeout selection, rotation selection, in game decisions...etc. I am glad he is finally decided to start coaching this team. I like what he said about talking about the positives, I actually like a lot of what he says, but at times things aren't translating onto the court. He knows what the issues are, but the fix hasn't manifested itself on the court as of yet. There is still time. I wish he would gotten control of this earlier instead of letting all this fester till late February. I do feel like in a lot of areas we got better tonight though.

If we had Naz, this wouldn't even be an issue though and if they can figure out how to make a run in the NCAA, this won't matter either. Playing small with George at the "5" with Naz in the lineup was our best lineup anyway. Not having Naz really is really a big hindrance. People forget before he started hurting last year he was one of the best shooting guards in the country. Just can't lose a guy like that and expect everything to go smoothly

My guess is he showed up late and he couldn't play him, but who knows. Hopefully lighting strikes and everyone is happy come tourney.

No coach worth his salt is going to go into the details of why a guy did not play. Coach K, Petino, Izzo, none of them would go into why a guy did not play with a bunch of reporters after a game.

He answered the question move on.

Also given none of us have control over coaching decisions, not sure why a detailed answer would make a difference

Just watched the presser...some of U have zero clue what being a HC is like or means..zero. Prohm handled that perfectly. It's his decision..period. Nothing else,to say...and what I like is that he said he's not going to discuss negative stuff that's going on because it destroys teams. Totally agree. All these people want a headline and a story and continued drama and Prohm isn't having any of it.

This exactly! People really don't have any idea what's going on? If you actually listen, Prohm said exactly what is going on. Prohm's very first comments were evasive, but then he clearly described what is up. To say any more would be unprofessional. Watch the presser and pay attention to these quotes:

[Jameel not playing was] "for the best interest of where we want to be down the road"

"One thing that we've got to do is to start focusing on the postive things this team is doing, instead of the negative things."

"Obviously we need Jameel to be great. Everybody in this room knows it. Our team knows it."

"I want our team to go out the right way...I want to start celebrating the positive things and good things."
