Are you basing that off of the 2 min of highlight video from his JR year? I'm not buying that a year off and coming in late won't set him back significantly.

Prohm wanted to red shirt Carter last year after arriving on campus in a similar timeframe but wasn't able to due the front court numbers. In Retrospect it would have been the right move and summer reports have him progressing nicely.
I think in an ideal world he would like to give Lard a red shirt year to develop. That said if he comes to campus and is ready to contribute it would bode very well for his game. Kosongo is already one post who is RSing not sure if the staff will want two C's not being able to contribute (like Ernst situation last year).
Let it play out but we shouldn't count on Lard as anything but a bonus contributor at this point.
Tortilla shells made with lard are the best. I miss travelling to Texas twice a year for work.
I wouldn't redshirt Lard. If he isn't in the main rotation you can at least get him minutes in blowouts. They lose a lot of guys next year and any playing time guys like Lard, Long, Carter etc. get will help for next year. Plus, ISU isn't Iowa. If I was the player I wouldn't choose to redshirt either.
I really like the "street tacos" trend. With the right mix of cabbage/asian cole slaw and chipotle aioli you're talking about some pretty good eats.
There's not a lot I miss about working in Marshalltown, but those are two of them. You just can't get a deal like that in Ames.
Not a lot of players are ever very happy about the idea of redshirting. They want to play. But if that's what the coaching staff thinks is best for his long term prospects at ISU then he'd be smart to take their advice.

The coaches are thinking about themselves. Not about the player. My advise would be don't ever redshirt. If you aren't good enough then you get recruited over and probably pushed out and you have lost a year of eligibility. There just isn't a need to redshirt players anymore at the Power 5 level. Usually if you need the redshirt then you aren't good enough.
Wisconsin is the only school that redshirts successfully IMO and they recruit in a different way than most schools.

This whole thread is about basketball, not football. Another reason to not redshirt is that it saves your redshirt for a possible transfer year.
I remember when reading about our matchup with Virginia that they had a top-50 player redshirting. It would seem they also use redshirts.
Maybe it's Tony Bennett's Wisconsin ties.
No one is suggesting a Wisconsin style redshirting strategy.
But redshirting a player like Lard who is barely graduating and hasn't played basketball since his JR year is totally different.
I heard he ran out of Pokeballs so he's prob just at a poke stop
