Just wondering if Eikmeier might be the Ben Jacobson fit for our program? He did not come out of Sioux City with much hype and he was a great player at UNI. Another player that comes to mind is Nate Funk from Creighton. NebrClone, is this what we have to look forward to!!??!!

The difference is that Wes E. wont be the star of the team. Defenses wont key on him, theyll be busy with Wesley and Craig'erz. Hopefully since he wont be watched everytime down the court, hell get some wide open 3's.

Anyone have a more recent picture of him than the one on his rivals profile when he was 15 and looked like 13?

I think Eikmeier's success will depend largely on two factors.

1. How quick is his release? Its clear he can shoot, but does he have a Jake Sullivan release or a Brock Jacobson release?

2. Is he athletic enough to play good defense against D1 competition?

I'm very optimistic on both fronts, but we probably won't know for sure until next season.

Could be Ben Jacobson could be Brock Jacobson.

My guess is someone more like Brooks McCowen

I don't think McDermott would have gone after him if he didn't have that kind of potential. Wes definately has to put on some muscle to be the complete player those two were. Not a star, a complete player. If he doesn't, then he will just be the role player. Our outside threat.

Im just saying in HS McCowen couldnt miss from outside. We played him every year and that kid could launch fairly well.

I don't expect a lot of minutes from Wes next year. I'm just hoping we have a guy who is able to come in for a few minutes, maybe hit a 3 and provide a spark, then go back to the bench. Anything more than that in 08-09 is a luxury, in my opinion.

Wes is a much, much better shooter than McCowen.

How can you say that about Iowa's All Time leading scorer? You never know what happens to guy's confidence in their shot when they get to college. If you're like McCowen and believe your role is to get the team into the offense and not shoot, your confidence and stroke are going to be affected.

Some kids are great scorers because they know no one else on their team is. When they get to college they know others can score and aren't as aggressive on offense. We'll see what Wes does.

Actually I think Wes is one of the most intriguing recruits that I can remember. Never have we had so much speculation about one kids talents. Some say superstar, some say benchwarmer.

There are a lot of ?s about next years recruiting with Hamilton, Wes, and Mann. Just gotta keep faith in Coach Mac.

This was on the front of the Sports page of the Omaha World Herald after he had the huge scoring night.

Isn't McCowen the leading scorer in the state of Iowa EVER? That's a bold statement.

He probably is also the state's all time leader in shots attempted. Did anyone see the state championship game his senior year? He was chucking from anywhere on the court, and they weren't going in very often. His dad was the coach and Brooks had the green light to shoot everytime down the floor if he wanted to, and most of the time he did just that. I would put good money on Wes being a better pure shooter than McKowen.

I never saw McCowen much. It is really hard to compare, because you rremember there last year in college to a high school kid. Wes has so much upside, he can shoot, he is a legit 6'3" but thin, he is very fast with the ball in his hands, he is a very good defender, but I have not seen him against other D-1 recruits, he can create his own shot, he has a very quick release on the catch and shoot and he is a very good passer. One play they run every game is Wes circling around the top and going for an backdoor alley oop for a lay in.

I really, really hope he is better than Ben Jacobsen. I was never all that impressed with him. He had a nice career, but was far from a game changer IMO.
