Wes Eikmeier article from Fremont Tribune

Have you seen this kid play #1? Just curious, since you like ripping on our recruits and current players so much.

Wow...you are just a touch on the edge! Take a deep breath and relax.

To answer your question...no, I have not seen him play. Did I "rip" the kid? I don't believe so. Frankly, I just wanted to get some perspective on this guy's opinion since he said, and I paraphrase here, "he is the quickest player I've seen this year"...I'm just curious as to how much he has to compare this kid to...nothing nefarious in my question.

Having said that, I do admit that I am a little dubious of "great BB recruits from NE"...I don't believe that the state could actually be considered a BB hotbed.

He is the quickest high school player I have seen this year. I have only seen NE high school.

Have you seen anything besides NE HS BB?

I have not see not seen the kid play, but I am pretty sure McDermott has. I am willing to bet the farm that McDermott has a better guage of D-1 talent than anyone on this message board.

Good enough for me.

Quickest player he's seen all year has to be a good thing. It doesn't matter if he's only seen 1 game, I'd sure rather Eikmeier be the quickest than the slowest out there.

Watching our shooting this year, he would be a pleasant surprise if he shoots well. Looking forward to his joining the team. He may b the best basketball player in Nebraska. I would also think he would not quit the team.

Not Sure the Level of Competition is Important

If Eikmeier was a post kid or athletic scorer the level of competition or his quickness might be important. From everything I've read (Never seen him play) he is a shooter and I'm sure G-Mac recruited him for his ability to make 3's.

Looking back Mac has gotten some pretty good players from small schools. All that matters is Eikmeier fits G-Mac's style of play.

I've heard that Altman really likes Eikmeier. He would be all over him if G-Mac had not looked him up early. He's the type of player that Altman built his program with. I've also heard that Doc Sadler is also disappointed that Eikmeier was gone before he got a chance to go after him.

There were also articles that Missouri would give him an offer instantly if for any reason he were to decommit from ISU.

McDermott said on his call in show last week, that Staiger and Eikmeier should have some good shooting battles in practice. He also said, that Eikmeier has been working hard on his ball handling.

Competition at this level is real variable, this is high schools of less than 250 students.

Watching Eikmeier and Bryan Peterson on TV. In a race Wes would making a layup when Peterson gets to mid court.

So Wes has about average speed then?? Just kidding don't want a bunch of Peterson supporters to attack me!!

I think most of us probably agree with you. That being said, there's nothing wrong with being excited about a recruit. McDermott seems to be a good judge of talent, especially if you believe the comments about other programs wanting him on board.

I heard that Altman maybe wasn't quite all over him, but did attempt to recruit him despite despite being committed to the good guys.

He seems to be a beast from downtown, and will hopefully give us some outside shooting. Don't underrate his ability to run the point
