Why do they do 25 spots for this poll? Wouldn't it make sense just to have a top ten, or is it all just for drama?

My guess is because they are positioning themselves as the only rankings that matter. If I recall correctly, all the game promos and in-broadcast graphics start showing a team's ranking by where it is in the CFP list.

Correct. After the CFP rankings come out, they are the only ones that matter going forward.

Sure, and it's cool that ISU is in it, but for a 4 team playoff, what does a team ranked #20 mean with a month left?
