Weird Coincedence?

Referring to the thread title: It would only be a coincidence if they were comparable. Put down the kool aid.

I can't help but think good things are going to happen for basketball next season. Just compare the line-ups from 99-00 team to the 09-10 potential line-up.

PG 09-10 Garrett
99-00 Tinsley
This comparison is not that great. Tinsley could shoot from anywhere on the court. Garrett isn't that stellar. Garrett can slash very well and get to the rim. Tinsley could do the same. Tinsley had better ball security, but if Garrett can improve on this. We can do well.

SG 09-10 Gilstrap
99-00 Nurse
Nurse could spot-up and shoot and handle the ball. He also could create a pretty decent shot. From what is said about Gilstrap, it sounds like he can be filling that spot. Plus Nurse was maybe 5-11, Gilstrap is 6-6.

G-F 09-10 Staiger
99-00 Horton
Horton was a shooter, plain and simple. Leave him open and he will destroy you. Staiger can do the same exact thing. I think Staiger probably has a bit more athleticism than Kantrail did. Scary.

F-C 09-10 Brackins
99-00 Fizer
Both All-American out of high school. I don't think Fizer was All-Big 12 his SO year, but he was very good. Just look at the difference between SO Fizer and JR Fizer. If that transformation, happens with Brackins...


F-C 09-10 Ham or Dendy
99-00 Shirley
Shirley was a tall dude that could finish farily well around the hoop. He could rebound. Play some pretty good D. I think Ham could be that player for next year. Shirley was the dude that knew what to do when Fizer would get doubled. One of these two needs to be that player when Brackins gets doubled.


These are just some thoughts to mull around with. The question for this team is how well the coaching staff can develop these players and if they can learn and live with their different roles. If that happens, we will have something really special.

You must be high on Robotussin to compare Jammall Tinsley to Diante Garrett. Jammall was one of the best point guards to ever come from the streets of New York. Diante is just another regular guy.

Anyone got a clue on where that '00 team was predicted to finish? I'd be surprised if it was higher than 6th in the big 12, pretty similar to where a lot of people see next years team. I think this team has a lot of opportunity, as long as we hold on to the players we have, and the new players are willing to play team ball.

No offense to Lucca obviously, Horton was a great player and would easily be our second best player next year.
