I heard from a friends daughter, she met Brendon Wegher at freshman orientation yesterday at Iowa Western CC.

Does anyone know what Wegher's eligibility situation is? Clearly, this is a move to get back to D1 football.

I think you get 5 years to play 4. He didn't play last year so he'd now be a redshirt sophomore. If he plays one year at a CC, he presumably could get his AA degree and transfer to a Div 1 school as a junior. Maybe he ends up at Nebraska after this year?

As a scholarship RB?

So is UI out of the question due to Coe and/or burned bridges?

I'm wondering if UNL would take Wegher as an RB for two years, or at all?

Would a non B10 move be easier for him or does that not make a difference?

Quite frankly, I'm not sure if Nebraska would take him due to the fact he's left two programs already. If he wants to play close to home, I just figured that would be a logical place from his perspective.

I wouldn't say it's out of the question for him to go back to Iowa, but I don't think it's likely.

I suppose Iowa State would be another option, but I'm not sure how much interest they would have in him. That would certainly eliminate any questions about his eligibility since he'd have already sat out his year.

I'm wondering what program would give an RB with Wegher's baggage a scholarship for two years?
 
If he went to a community college he should be able to transfer where ever he wants after this season much like Cam Newton. Newton stayed in the conference after leaving Florida. He also wouldn't have to get his AA degree because he was a qualifier out of high school.
 
Brandon Wegher’s college tour has made a pit stop in Council Bluffs.

The former all-state running back from Sioux City Heelan has joined the Iowa Western football program with hope of getting his once-promising career back on track.

Wegher, who amassed 6,825 rushing yards as a prep superstar, ran for 641 yards and a freshman-record eight touchdowns at Iowa in 2009. He left the Hawkeyes for personal reasons last August before walking on at Oklahoma for a short time earlier this year.

Currently enrolled in summer classes to become eligible for this fall, Wegher reported to IWCC on Thursday. He ran through a few drills that day before joining the rest of the Reiver players in helmets and shoulder pads on Friday afternoon for their full workout.

“He hasn’t lost too much,” IWCC coach Scott Strohmeier said. “He’s pretty good.”

Wegher racked up 3,238 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns for Heelan’s Class 3-A quarterfinal team during his senior year. He capped his only season with Iowa by tallying 113 rushing yards and a game-clinching 32-yard touchdown in a 24-14 win over Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

If he meets academic requirements, Wegher would be a major addition to an Iowa Western offense that returns only three full-time starters from 2010. Running backs Jalen Singleton and Antaries Daniels, the top two rushers in the IWCC’s one-back set last year, are not with the squad this fall.

I'm pretty sure NU recruited him as a DB or Safety coming out of high school but he wanted to play RB hence he went to Iowa. I doubt NU would take a chance on this kid considering his baggage....i doubt anyone takes a chance on this kid. I think his next stop will be UNI.

That's what I thought as well. He had some bigtime offers out of high school but most wanted him as a defensive back rather than a rb. Iowa was one of the few that told him he could try rb first.

He'd be better served to play safety I think...his chances at making money some day would be much better. I was hoping he would make that transition at Iowa and replace Sash this year....
 
I'd take him as a safety prospect. I don't care about baggage if a kid can play and has been ok for a year off the field....give him a shot
