Weekend summary...

JP has done some good things and some not so good things. What's incredible is the ISU fans who continued to fill the Jack despite one of the worst decades in Clone football history (with I believe only one winning season) and coming off 2 and 3 win seasons. The great ISU fan support is how we were able to land good coaching prospects like CSP and CMC.
Cyclone football could never be categorized as good. The only times we had good seasons were when our OOC schedule was weak. With the new BXII set up we have a meat grinder every year. To say the it was one of the worst decades is weak. Name a time when we had a good decade.

Meanwhile. Even after I participated in derailing thread, how about getting this back on the weekend summary. Allen looks like an awesome get and sorely needed TE. I don't expect him to produce right away but it is great to have someone to look forward to.

I won't argue that our football history is good, just not as bad as some make it out to be. In our earlier history we had some decades when we never had a losing season. I know that was the MVC and Big 6, but that included Iowa and many of the Big 8 schools. From 71-80 we had 5 winning seasons and an overall winning percentage when the Big 8 was the undisputed king of college football. During the 7 years before Chiz we had only 2 losing seasons and an overall winning percentage, so we have had some success in modern times too. I agree the round robin schedule is tougher, but it could also be argued that the Big 12 hasn't been as good either based on bowl results. A few good things have happened the last decade, but overall it has been a very bad decade even by our standards. The good thing is if CMC has some nice success, and I believe he has a decent chance to have success, it will be that much sweeter. Nothing more exciting for coaches, players, and fans than to turn around a struggling program, and CMC is off to a good start.

He's doing a lot better now that he was forced to use a hiring agency, rather than the hires he was making before. Coaching "searches", and retaining good coaches was his downfall. He's been great at everything else.

Agree. Our history with d-coordinators with no head coaching experience wasn't good and hiring two more after DMac didn't make much sense when there were good head coaches like Kelly out there. Sounds like JP got more help this time from guys like Sage and Bruns and I think he got it right this time. I do think JP is getting better at the job. I hope he has learned to control what he says (and tweets) a little more and lets CSP and CMC be the guys in the news and the face of the program.
