Week 1 Tailgating Observations

So I have handicap, supposed to anyway. Bad leg, long story. Got there later than I planned. a little after 12. Tried to pull in, Parking guy says no room left in handicap must go to G5, I say "you going to make me walk from the furthest parking lot with handicap?
To which he told me there are people there giving the handicap people rides to the stadium.
Nothing I can do but do what I was told.
Get to G5 the half dozen guys there say they know nothing about handicap parking nor any rides for handicap people, I explain we were told to come here that a ride would be coming for us and to send it to us. Proceed to park me in the very far end of the lot as far away from stadium as I could be.
We park and sit and wait for over 2 hours and no ride comes.
We walk up to the gate and ask about the rides and were told there is no rides and they have no idea what we are talking about.
We were forced to walk. We walk to the stadium and I see the guy that told us to park in G5 and tell him there is no rides for the handicap people he is sending to G5. He says yes there is and proceeds to argue with me, and then tells me I just didnt wait long enough. I said I waited over 2 hours. He then said its not his problem, its not his job, he doesnt care and if I wanted to complain go try to find his boss.
Now in extreme pain, I finish walking into the stadium and watch the game.
Following the game, again no rides back to the parking lot.
Forced to walk, now in excruciating pain.
upon arriving at G5 notice they are forcing traffic to turn towards University instead of the other way. its a traffic jam, yet very little traffic towards Duff. I said are you forcing people to only turn right, and was told yes.
Get in car, and didnt move for about 2 hours, until they finally started letting people turn towards Duff. Finally the lot started to empty out.
The New parking people are idiots, and should be fired. The entire plan needs to be readdressed.

Not happy about what went on last weekend.

I took my 86 year old Dad to the game. We got to the parking lot at 9:30am. We got right in and found a great place to park. Tailgating was fun. Everyone seemed very excited to be back. Lots of people just stopping and chatting. After the game, we got out with little effort and headed north through campus. It was really a very enjoyable day for us.

Have tailgated enough years to know that there are usually late arrivals to lot A3. The suggestion I would make is when there are typically just the two of you, why don’t you come in the compact car. Why do you always bring your humongous land yacht as if to say “look at us. We are special.” Those big trucks do not make tight corners very well.

To the A-holes coming in from the east on 4th to enter the A/B lots when they opened at 7, yes we can come in from the West and have been for decades, zipper method is simple. Granted the guys scanning passes didn't do anything to control traffic. Doesn't help that they have to write your lot on the windshield since there aren't physical passes anymore.
It amazes me that people who show up 45 minutes to an hour after others complain about getting in right away. There really should be no need for a zipper merge until the first group gets in.
A lot of entitlement in that west line when they open up and the first to arrive are actually let in as they are supposed to with a first come first in policy.

You sir, are 100% correct. I just shake my head when I see those people practically running over people when they roll in late. The lots were built in 1975 when these luxury dump trucks didn’t exist. They are just too damn big.

I know we joke about emailing JP our complaints, but this is certainly worth a message to him. At least just letting him know how incompetent the parking crew is this year.

G7 was incredibly inefficient. Gaps all over the place. In the past you'd have parking attendants directing you into a spot leaving 4-5 feet or so between vehicles. We had probably 10'+ gaps between cars near us.

Due to kids soccer I'm probably only going to get there 1.5hrs before kick. I just hope I don't get turned away from G7 like many reported this last week.

For anyone that got turned away, what was your backup plan?

Also curious what happened to those turned away from G7.

Duallys should be called two vehicles honestly. I've havent seen one fit totally inside the parking spots. Those people need to be first in line to spill over into medians or such.

Sorry if a donor chooses or is required to be productive in the morning and still wants to attend the game in the afternoon and park in the spot he paid and donated towards.

Your gripe is akin to saying fans shouldn't be allowed into the stadium after the first quarter because you've already spread out on their unclaimed seats

I've never understood the late-arriver gripe either. At the end of the day the lots are just that-- a parking lot. People pay for the ability to park within a close walk to the stadium. It's not a bar or club that you pay admission for, it's a parking lot.

Spread out, have your fun, tailgate all you want, but I can't understand not recognizing there are some that don't like tailgating, want to just come for the game and don't otherwise have a reason to be there 4 hours early.

S/O to your dad being 86 and tailgating/watching the game all day!

Or the parking team could hold an easily accessible section in each lot for late arrivals.

Also curious what happened to those turned away from G7.

I had heard they were directed next door to G10 (didn't even know it exists, or how you get a pass there?) - located here:

I emailed the ticket office to make sure I'd be able to get in G7 this week even if late, since there were horror stories & terribly inefficient parking last week - they apologized for the new parking company not quite being up to speed yet, say they're working on things this week & expect it to be much better/have plenty of room.

How does that even happen though. Doesn't Iowa state kind of have a flow map/plan that could share with them? Leaving the G5 and G5 lots was a dumpster fire, they pushed everyone towards University Blvd instead of east to Duff like they have done forever. You can't reinvent the wheel every single week.

Can confirm - I was sent to G10 when they said G7 was full. New lot, probably for RVs next year. Crushed asphalt.
