Week 1 Depth Chart

One thing that I see is, whatever happens this season, this kind of two deep bodes extremely well for next year.

While I hope you are right, we used to say the same thing during the Walden years. "Well we are starting a bunch of freshmen, but we will be really good NEXT year!" Then the next year? Same thing, starting all the new freshmen...

I REALLYREALLYREALLY hope you are right.

Wiltz starting at CB and KR. My nightmare is coming true. I was hoping someone could beat him out. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

I think that he did OK at CB towards the end of last year. Was hoping that Payne or Jones could beat him out at KOR.

I just want to point out many of the players on the depth chart will be returning next year

Regarding the angst on Seely (which I share) let me throw out a positive thought regarding a similar situation.

Remember Jevohn Miller? That guy was on the CF ****list for a long time. And not without justification, he was ALWAYS out of position or missing a key tackle. But his senior year, he started to play fairly well, a competent Big12 LB. After he was injured in the OU game, the defense fell apart completely.

So maybe Seely can step it up too. Let's at least not hit the panic button until after game 1.

Lots and lots and lots of freshmen.

And, I assume that Bryce Meeker is the first reserve at more than one position.

16 freshmen of 64 players listed on the depth chart.

Offensive line has three seniors, one junior, and one freshman as starters.

I was more referring to all of the sophomores and (especially) juniors on the two deep.

Good for Vernell Trent to pass up Aka. I think that's a good sign for his progression as a player.

I just saw the "or" between Dondre Daley and Carson Epps. I don't think Daley is dropping because the coaches are still high on him. Must be that Epps is stepping it up.

So is ISU officially the youngest team in the NCAA this year? Not that it would be an excuse, but it will certainly be brought up any time a kid makes a bonehead mistake. Lots of growing pains this year. But it's nice to see a light at the end of the tunnel for a change. I'm excited to see how this is all going to look. If the young guys are ready to play now then give them the reps.

I doubt we are nearly the youngest team. It is amazing the number of kids that probably didn't know where ISU was a year ago and are now looking at starting or on the two deeps. The guys that Cambell started recruiting after the season (9 months later?) and are now already on the Depth Chart is impressive. We will see how the games go but that says some things about the staff's recruiting abilities.

Jucos usually aren't very good until after 8 games at least, usually their second season... Especially ones who didn't get here until August. Players biggest jumps are after their second spring.

@MonteMorris11 Hey Monte if you're ever interested in being a dual sport athlete, I'm sure we wouldn't mind

No. Ohio State is the youngest team. We actually aren't that young with starters. 5 senior starters on defense and 5 senior starters on offense. That's middle of the road.

Seeley will need a Jevohn Miller type improvement for this defense to stop anyone.

We already have a great running attack between Warren and Lanning... if Kene is actually the fastest guy on the team... Look out. I think we've also upgraded our short yardage back on top of that.

Not going to mention how our HC and OC both excel in blocking either.
