Weed control lawn company recommendation?

I’m looking for a company in Des Moines and/or Ames that can handle spraying for weeds and other misc lawn projects. (Not mowing).

the two companies that I’m not interested in is A+ Lawn and Trugreen.

Looking for a company that actually cares about providing quality work. Any recommendations?
 
Why are you not interested in A+ ? I used them for about 2 or 3 years before I went back to DIY and felt they did a really good job. My lawn has never looked better than when i had them treating it. May even have them back out this year for 1 or 2 treatments just to get a good blast on the weeds and clover that have reestablished in my lawn again. I thought I could keep on top of it after they cleaned it up good but just haven't had the time and probably not as good of product to maintain my .28 acre lot like they could.

The quality of work has really been subpar in my view. And one of their guys that does bigger landscaping jobs, is terrible at returning calls and emails. I've used them for a long time, and I'm ready to see what the other options are.

Try http://www.terra-dyne.com/. I have been using them for years. Once a month weed control application during the spring and summer months. Great, locally owned business. I have had no complaints and my lawn looks great with minimal effort from myself.

Agreed, not A+.

They had been servicing my yard for a couple years. Last Fall I had them do an aeration. Tech came out and utterly scalped and caused damage to the yard. I called them and the supervisor came out and confirmed that the tech had done two yards with a broken aerator and also missed several areas in my yard. They came back a week later and threw some grass seed down on the scalped spots and called it good.

Okay, fine, I'm not upset yet, until the office manager insisted on charging me for the aeration. I emailed multiple times explaining the situation, asked for a manager/owner to contact me, to no avail. I finally paid and told them to cancel my account.

I hope you left a Google review. Companies like that should care if others read that.

Thank you! A good locally owned business is exactly what I’m looking for. I see they are based in Ankeny, do you know if they offer service in Clive and Ames?

Not 100% sure, but I believe they do most of central Iowa. There is a testimony on the site from someone in Altoona, so they probably at least do the whole Des Moines area and Ankeny for sure. You'll have to contact them about Ames.

Can anyone recommend a company that does an organic treatment plan? With a small child and dog I dont like having chemicals put on my lawn, but I see there are a few companies that offer an organic treatment so just wondering if anyone has had experience with a company that does this.

Maybe Terradyne? I haven't been happy with any of my services lately - TruGreen, Weedman, maybe one other?

From recommendations above, now checking out Optimized Pro Lawn Care Program — Terradyne Lawn Service (terra-dyne.com),

Another vote for not A+.

"We" decided that after having a second kid to hire out our lawn stuff. Was like pulling teeth to get them to come out once paid. After several weeks and coming home to 10" tall grass I mowed it myself and told them to shove it. It was even harder to get them to stop charging me. It's been too long now, but I'm not sure how many phone calls it took, but several dozen.

Also a no on BOSS in Johnston. They tore the **** out of my yard, at least they refunded the mowing charge for that week.

DeVries in DSM has been okay, but the bar was set really low for me. After two season and three providers, I took it back into my own hands.
 
I use Ideal Cut. It's a small company that's only been around for a few years. I think it's still a one-man show, so I don't know how much business he'd be able to take on.

We use Spring Green out of Boone and are happy with the results. We are located in Nevada, so I assume they service Ames. Not sure about DSM though.
