Weather for Memphis

Forecast from weather.com

Memphis--Dec. 30--high 33, low 24

Ames--Dec 30--high 9, low -5

Between Christmas and New Years is about the coldest time of year down there. I have seen it 12 degrees in New Orleans Christmas Eve, and below zero in Memphis decades ago around Christmas and I've also seen it 60 degrees.

Anyway, it could be worse, and enjoy yourselves.

Don't forget the winds from the NNW at 6-12 mph. This is going to be a cold one. Y'all should be used to that I would think.

Yep, now wunderground.com has downgraded it to a high of 34 with 31 at kickoff. However, they say mostly sunny with 8 mph wind from the north. I've upgraded my thermal base layer and bought a new down filled parka (red). Got the hand and feet warmer packs. Have my insulated boots and socks, etc., etc. Should be pretty comfortable even sitting in those conditions.

Nice work on the red jacket! But don't plan on "sitting" too much.

Man the forecast for here is nasty, 7 high, good chance of snow, and 15 mph winds to top it off. Memphis sounds wonderful.

The weather forecast is trending for the better. Projected high temps are from 35 to 39 degrees with most forecasters going with 39 degrees. Breeze around 10 mph. Partly to mostly sunny. The real cold air is now projected for Sunday and Monday after the game. If the cold air mass slows it's progression southward even more than projected, the high temps for the day could be higher.

By Saturday morning the next arctic front will be sweeping through the Midsouth. Depending on the exact timing of the front this could have a big impact on either Friday night lows or Saturday highs. For example a midday frontal passage would likely cause falling temperatures in the afternoon/evening on Saturday. Right now it looks like highs will range anywhere from the mid 20s to mid 40s across our CWA. Regardless of the exact timing of the front, it should be well south of the region by Saturday night.

Translation: Nope, no idea what the weather's going to be!
