Yes, I am being facetious with this post, but it is true nonetheless. Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, by far and away the best season preview out there, had us for dead last in the conference, and Sporting News, also a very good one IMO, had us 11th.
Yeah, small consolation I know, but I do think it's important that for the most part the "experts" knew what they were talking about. I remember at the start of the season some fans were excited that we started 3-0 after beating some mediocre mid to low-major teams and I had to shake my head in bemusement.
Look, I'm not happy with how the season has turned out either, but like most people here, I will give McD a chance next year to turn things around, especially if Brackins returns. His detractors will point out (and accurately so) that he never won a regular-season championship at UNI, but he still took a program with pretty much no basketball tradition to three straight NCAA tournaments, with two of them being at-large berths. At a school with limited financial resources and no tradition like UNI, that is DAMN hard to do people.
I don't think he forgot how to coach during the 1 hr. and 45 minuhte drive from Cedar Falls to Ames. That being said, if we have this same record at this point next season with our returning personell and incoming talent, then I think an argument for change is certainly valid.
Anyway, feel free to comment and discuss....
