WBB: ISU vs UNI Panthers 5:00

UNI plays Drake next. Can be state champ. Iowa was 2-1, Drake's 1-1 and UNI is 2-0. And of course we are 0-3.

Good news for the rest of the season is the Big 12 is weak tea. The bad news is we aren't likely good enough to take advantage of it.

I might try to catch that one think it will be entertaining.

Actually in WBB I enjoy playing them, makes for competitive games that are fun to watch instead of blowouts over Cupcake U. But everyone has their own opinion.

Thing is we are sort of on par strength wise with the top Missouri Valley teams in spite of our NCAA seeding last year. We are 0-3 (Mizzu State, Drake, UNI) the last three games with two of those being in Hilton. These can't all be fluke one offs.

I haven't posted near as much this year as I have in the past. Just not quite as excited about this teams potential as last years. If Scott doesn't get back to her form it's going to be tough for Joens to carry the team against good opposition. In the Big 12 I think TX, BU, & WV are going to be extremely hard for this team to win against. And I'm seeing some pretty good ball being played by Tech, TCU & OSU. The team really needs a good strong dominant post and a reliable point guard.

I watched the game today on CYtv. In fact I even watched the replay of the Iowa game as well. Got in a lot of WBB today. Watched the Longhorns & Stanford as well as UConn & OU. Now watching KC beat up on the Chicago Bears. Full day and a lot of good food.

As many have said, this is unacceptable, but what does that mean? I have zero say in any matters relating to the program. The only thing I control is where and when I spend my disposable income. I might have to reevalulate my current choices, as I am NOT enjoying the product being offered by ISU WWB.

How quickly people jump off the bandwagon. You’d swear last year was a decade ago.

Emily Ryan will be arriving next fall. Barring injury, the Cyclones point guard problems will be over for four years. If you question my opinion, run a Google search and watch her highlights. Better yet, catch a feed and watch Ryan for an entire game.

I wish we played defense like UNI. Physical, and their trapping zone just killed us.
Karli Rucker was the best player on the floor - what a leader.

We aren't, and never have been, very good at it. Even if we were, it's way tougher with a 6/7 player rotation compared to a 10/11 player rotation.

You have to consider that the style of play that Northern Iowa employees requires two or three people that can score and 6 to 7 that can foul the crap out of you.

And I am one of those who is NOT a fan of that type of basketball. I am old school where it was a game of skill and not a game of mug the other team till they fear getting near the basket.

I don't like the style either. And I understand that BF doesn't like it. But the bottom line is that college WBB has moved to the very physical style, because the powers that be want it that way, and it's been that way for what, 15 years now??? It's not going back to the 1990's finesse game anytime soon. ISU needs to be ready to play that style if the refs are going to let the game go that way (which is more likely than not).

It really doesn't matter what we like, it matters what is.

And we don't have that?

Rae and a couple of others can play rough, but Joens and MEM (the new freshman) can't take the physical play. They do the best the can but they just aren't solid enough to take the bumping game night after night. Jade is quick as can be but she's not going to take being mugged going up the court time after time. Same with Nia, Kane and a couple of other posts don't get enough time to matter they are more physical but we seem to give up offense and even some defense when they are in there. That's my 2 cents worth anyway.

I wouldn't say Joens can't take the physical play. I think she is most physical tough player on the team. That what impressed me when I would watch her in AAU. She was always willing to sacrifice her body and not shy away from contact.

Once she starts getting bumped by players 20# heavier than her it's going to take a toll. None of the gals I mentioned shy away from contact, but it's pretty darn easy to see they are going to come out on the losing end of it after the length of the season. We are both entitled to our difference of opinions.

I do think having Wise there would have made a huge difference, possibly in both games, Iowa, and UNI. I have my own 2 cents, but I don't think it would be very well received by experience, and I have repeated so many times over the last 10 years, that I get tired. I always wish the Cyclones well, and hope they put something together, though unless Wise comes back I am a bit skeptical. I think talent-wise they could do it though there is no way it is going to be a stellar season.
