WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

So, I'm logging into espn+ to watch WBB versus UNI tonight....and the ESPN+ graphic is Devonte Graham of Kansas from like 5 years ago?!?!?!? What the? Are they lacking graphics? I hate that guy and hate Kansas.

First time watching Minn for a whole game this year. Ok - Whalen may be a legend (for good reason) as a player, but hiring her as a coach was a mistake. And Minn has kind of a proud womens bb tradition.
What offense do they run? I see a mess.

I have seen this happen a number of times in the past just because someone was a great player does not mean they can coach. When my sons were in high school the coach had been a very good player at Simpson but was a total failure as a high school coach.

At this point, with her whole career ahead of her and the season shot, I would think she would be just shutting it down for 2-3 months to see if it heals without surgery. Seems surgery or no surgery it's a long-shot to play this season and seems risky IMHO.

She can live on some of that NIL money she's getting (gatorade $$$ I believe)

If she were to get a medical hardship this year (which she'd easily qualify for if she doesn't return this season), she would still have four more years of eligibility remaining. The NIL situation might keep her from leaving school as early as she otherwise might, since she might have just as much endorsement value in college as she would as a pro.

On the flip side, she can make good money in the WNBA once her rookie contract is complete (not to mention overseas money), and she'd only be delaying that non-rookie contract by staying at UConn longer than needed. She's eligible for the draft the year she turns 22 (which is 2023 for her) so she could leave UConn after only three years if she wanted to.

Bueckers did have surgery, and she is out an estimated eight weeks.

There's no real reason to sit out and take the medical hardship since she already has a bonus year of eligibility due to covid -- I sincerely doubt six years at UConn is in her long-term plans. It does seem everyone expects her to return for the end of the regular season plus postseason if she is able.

The latest poll came out yesterday and peeps likely know ISU moved up to #12 in AP.

Iowa dropped to #14 while Baylor and Texas stayed at #5 and #11. I was wondering if the Jennie Sooners might get in. Missed tying for 25th by one vote. Will be interesting to see them in league play. They might "be back" faster than I thought and I think she will get them back.

Once Texas and OU leave (whatever year) the league is going to be weaker. I'm sort of in the screw them crowd with respect to football (and also their damn TV deals) but WBB minus them is not as good.

I won't miss Texas at all when they leave. They typically are overrated. This year perhaps not. OU I'll miss, but would have missed more if Sheri was still there. Jenny is going to do a bang up job there I have no doubt. They will be a force this year in the 12 just by getting some wins they maybe shouldn't be expected to get.

Future B12 opponent UCF women's basketball team plays Iowa at 6:30 tonight. UCF is coached by past Cyclone assistant, Cedar Rapids Washington and Iowa player, Katie Ambrahamson Henderson. Only available to watch on Bigten+ which I refuse to subscribe to.

My wife has the big network until the end of 2021 - I'll have to call her to find out her password. Note: This is why you don't start subscriptions you think they are cancelled and find out after they renew they are still going.

Iowa beats UCF by 8

KSU beat Oregon by 12 and game was in Manhattan. Wasn't it just a few years ago Oregon was one of the nation's best with Sabrina Ionescu. How the mighty have fallen.

Oregon has been crippled by injuries this season. They are just starting to get healthy. They will definitely be a force in the PAC and will be a factor in the NCAA tournament.

I paid attention to the box score on this game. Clark hit her first three 3 pt shots to start the game and then missed her final nine 3 pt'ers. Still ended with 21 points based on volume of shot

To those who wonder where all the tall female possible basketball players are take a look at the Wisconsin volleyball roster. I wonder if any of the three over 6' 6" played basketball in high school.

Interesting thought, made me look. Per Wisc bios I think the answer is no except for Rettke who played fresh/soph years in HS.

Weird she is shooting 25% this year after how she shot last year. Can't say it's the new line since she shoots beyond that last year and this year.

She's also got 27 more rebounds than their post and leads the Hawks. Sort of a statement on how good a rebounder she is and how bad of a rebounder Czinano is.

Tons of female athletes are choosing volleyball over basketball it seems. Less physically demanding for sure.

Big 12 stuff:

Baylor lost in OT to #13 Michigan in Connecticut.

#11 Texas beat San Diego State who subbed in at the last minute for #4 Arizona who had to cancel because of COVID stuff. Would have been a good one with #4 Wildcats, bummer that was cancelled.

Drake women just beat the Gophers 77-63 in Des Moines. Drake ran Minnesota off the court with pure hustle! Fun game..
